Abrams Tank Maintenance Mechanic

We are hiring an Abrams Tank Maintenance Mechanic to support maintenance, modification, and sustainment activities for the M1 Abrams Family of Vehicles, including the M1A1 SA, M1A2 SEP V2, and M1A2 SEP V3 platforms at Fort Cavazos, Texas. This role performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and Modification Work Orders (MWOs) while supporting U.S. Army ground vehicle readiness in a military maintenance environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on Abrams Family of Vehicles.
  • Install and complete Modification Work Orders (MWOs) on M1A1 SA, M1A2 SEP V2, M1A2 SEP V3, and related Abrams variants.
  • Diagnose mechanical system issues by reading and interpreting technical manuals, troubleshooting procedures, diagnostic flowcharts, and maintenance documentation.
  • Repair, maintain, and modify military ground combat vehicles in accordance with established technical standards.
  • Maintain accountability of assigned tools, special tools, test equipment, and government property.
  • Support maintenance, retrofit, and fielding activities for Abrams fleet vehicles.
  • Successfully complete required Abrams fleet Job Proficiency Certification requirements.
  • Perform additional maintenance duties as assigned by maintenance leadership.
  • Work independently while coordinating effectively with government personnel and maintenance teams.

Qualifications:
  • US Citizenship Required
  • Must be able to obtain access to U.S. military facilities, including a NACI clearance if required.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 1+ year of mechanical maintenance experience, preferably supporting the Abrams Family of Tanks.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and Modification Work Orders (MWOs) on military ground vehicles preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of military maintenance tools, special tools, and diagnostic test equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting guides, and diagnostic flow diagrams.
  • Valid state driver's license required.
  • Ability to obtain an Abrams Tank Driver's License.
  • Must meet Anthropometric Screening Requirements (ASR) for operating enclosed military vehicles.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb, work at heights, and perform duties in indoor shop environments and outdoor field conditions.
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel as required to support maintenance, retrofit, and fielding operations.
  • Ability to work autonomously while supporting government maintenance personnel.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hands-on maintenance experience with M1A1 SA, M1A2 SEP V2, M1A2 SEP V3, or other Abrams platform variants.
  • Prior military vehicle maintenance experience supporting U.S. Army combat vehicle systems.
  • Experience supporting fielding, sustainment, or retrofit programs.
