Job description

The physician in the clinical track is responsible for providing direct inpatient and outpatient care to gastrointestinal patients at UHealth locations and Jackson Memorial Hospital. The role includes obesity evaluation, medical therapy, endobariatric outpatient clinical and endoscopic services (at least 8 half days a week), and inpatient rounding/teaching.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and perform comprehensive physiologic assessment of obesity and related disease, such as BMI, body scan/body composition, elastography, and fibroscan.
  • Educate patients on lifestyle changes, nutritional needs, and long‑term diet‑focused weight management strategies.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and manage anti‑obesity medication therapy.
  • Evaluate patients for suitability for endoscopic versus surgical interventions, considering comorbidities, weight history, and psychosocial factors.
  • Manage obesity using endoscopic bariatric metabolic therapies (EBMTs) such as endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG), transoral outlet reduction, sleeve‑in‑sleeve revision, and intragastric balloon.
  • Perform and interpret endoscopic procedures with expertise in sedation, airway management, and surgical anatomy relevant to bariatric care.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care with obesity medicine physicians, dietitians, psychologists, and surgical teams to address nutritional, psychological, and lifestyle aspects of bariatric care.
  • Provide longitudinal care for patients across the continuum of obesity management.
  • Maintain medical records and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Stay current on emerging endoscopic devices, obesity pathophysiology, and treatment guidelines.
  • Maintain outpatient clinical practice at UHealth locations, UHealth Towers, and satellite locations as assigned.
  • Participate in night, holiday, and weekend call proportionate to other faculty.
  • Participate in Gastroenterology inpatient and Jackson Memorial Hospital teaching services proportionate to other faculty.
Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree.
  • ACGME U.S. internal medicine internship and residency.
  • Completion of a Clinical Nutrition and Obesity Medicine Fellowship.
  • Three‑year ACGME U.S. gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship with 2 years of endoscopic case logs for core and non‑core procedures.
  • Valid American Board of Obesity Medicine certification (ABOM).
  • Valid American Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology (or board‑eligible).
  • Valid unrestricted Florida medical license or eligibility to apply for one prior to credentialing.
  • Valid DEA licensure.
  • Permanent residency or ability to secure proper visa to work in the United States.
  • Current ACLS and BLS certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Deep clinical knowledge and experience in obesity management, bariatric endoscopy, and surgical interventions.
  • Ability to perform comprehensive assessments and education for patients seeking weight management solutions.
  • Proficiency in performing and interpreting advanced endoscopic procedures with sedation and airway management.
  • Strong ability to coordinate multidisciplinary care teams.
  • Commitment to ongoing education and maintaining CME to meet institutional and state licensing requirements.
  • Excellent clinical judgment to provide safe, high‑quality patient care in line with institutional standards.
