Position Description:

We are seeking a veterinarian to provide basic support to oncology patients and clients including; recheck appointments, management of treatment side effects,  examination and management of hospitalized patients, client care, instruction of oncology interns, and hospice counseling.

Some Responsibilities Include:

  1. Treat patients through the oncology department and urgent appointments related to oncology
  2. Consult with, and support other veterinarians and other services in the hospital with their patients when in need of assistance in the area of oncology.
  3. Work professionally, cooperatively and cordially with all members of the Angell staff.
  4. Maintain accurate and thorough medical records including documentation of communications with clients and referring veterinarians.

Requirements:

Candidates must demonstrate aptitude for multi-tasking and working successfully in a team environment. The successful candidate should be able to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, to the veterinary and technical staff as well as clients and referring veterinarians. Qualified applicants must have a DVM and licensed to work in the state of Massachusetts.

The Angell Animal Medical Center (AAMC) in historic Boston, MA is seeking applicants for a Staff Veterinarian- Oncology Hospitalist. Angell has served the greater Boston and scenic New England area as a primary care facility, a 24-hour emergency hospital, and as a tertiary referral center for close to a century. Angell is a premier veterinary institution staffed by 42 senior veterinarians, 17 interns, and 11 residents. Angell offers specialty services in pain medicine, acupuncture, anesthesiology, avian and exotic medicine, cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, dentistry, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care medicine, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, nutrition, medical and radiation oncology, ophthalmology, anatomic and clinical pathology, and surgery. AAMC is a rich educational environment offering weekly on-site continuing education seminars and regular multi-disciplinary specialty rounds attended by M.D. specialists from local prestigious hospitals. AAMC is part of the MSPCA, one of the oldest and most respected humane organizations in the world. AAMC’s Diagnostic Imaging Center, supported by 3 board-certified radiologists, has a new state-of-the-art 16 slice Toshiba CT,  and C-Arm for fluoroscopic imaging.

Our radiation oncology service has just installed a Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator. Angell is the first site in New England to offer stereotactic radiation in addition to traditionally fractionated 3D conformal and intensity modulated radiation therapy. Our current oncology staff is comprised of two board certified medical oncologists, three oncology technicians, two certified radiation therapists and service secretary. In addition our oncology service prides itself on a close collaborative relationship with our surgery service and the clinical and anatomic pathologist to provide a complete in house service that is very unique in its approach to managing oncology patients.
