We are seeking a motivated Junior 3D Environment Artist to support the development of visual simulation environments. This role will focus on creating and refining 3D models of real-world facilities and infrastructure based on CAD drawings, floor plans, and design documents.


The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in 3D modeling and is interested in applying their skills to real-world environments rather than game or entertainment content. You will work closely with experienced team members and Unity developers to prepare assets for use in simulation environments.


This is a hybrid position. Three days a week will be spent in our Hendon, VA office.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities

  • Create 3D models of facilities and environments based on CAD drawings, floor plans, and reference materials
  • Assist in converting and refining CAD or design files into usable 3D assets
  • Apply materials, textures, and basic lighting to produce clear and accurate visual representations
  • Optimize models and assets for real-time performance in Unity
  • Ensure models are built to accurate scale and reflect real-world layouts
  • Collaborate with Unity developers to integrate assets into simulation environments
  • Support development of reusable assets and environment components
  • Incorporate feedback and iterate on models as requirements evolve
  • Proficiency in at least one 3D modeling tool such as Blender, 3ds Max, Maya, or similar
  • Basic understanding of 3D modeling fundamentals, including scale, topology, and geometry
  • Familiarity with UV mapping and texturing
  • Ability to interpret floor plans, drawings, or reference images
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Interest in building real-world environments (facilities, infrastructure, etc.)

Preferred Skills

  • Exposure to CAD, Revit, or BIM files (academic or project experience is acceptable)
  • Familiarity with Unity or other real-time engines
  • Experience optimizing assets for real-time performance (even at a basic level)
  • Portfolio demonstrating environment modeling (academic or personal projects acceptable)
  • Interest in simulation, digital twin, or visualization environments

Requirements

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree (or equivalent experience) in 3D Modeling, Visualization, Game Art, Architecture, or a related field
  • 0โ€“2 years of relevant experience (internships or academic projects acceptable)
  • Ability to learn quickly and take direction from senior team members

Preferred Qualifications

Active DHS Public Trust BI or higher-level clearance within DHS.
