How much do international welding jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 10, 2026, the average hourly pay for international welding in the United States is $29.79, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $23.32 and $34.13 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Are international welders in demand?

International welders are generally in demand due to ongoing infrastructure projects, manufacturing, and energy sector needs worldwide. Skilled welders with certifications and experience in various welding techniques, such as TIG and MIG, are especially sought after in many regions. Job opportunities often depend on industry growth and regional economic development.

How much do international welders make?

International welders typically earn between $40,000 and $80,000 annually, depending on experience, certifications, and the complexity of projects. Skilled welders with certifications such as ASME or AWS can command higher wages, especially when working in remote or high-demand environments.

What is international welding?

International welding refers to the practice and certification of welding according to globally recognized standards, often set by organizations like the International Institute of Welding (IIW). Professionals in this field ensure that welded structures and products meet strict quality and safety requirements, which are accepted across different countries. International welding specialists may work on projects such as pipelines, bridges, or industrial equipment that must comply with international regulations. Certification as an International Welding Engineer, Technologist, or Specialist can open up job opportunities worldwide.

What is the difference between International Welding vs Structural Welding?

AspectInternational WeldingStructural Welding
CertificationsTypically includes certifications like AWS, ISO, or regional standards for global projectsOften requires AWS certifications, especially AWS D1.1 for steel structures
Work EnvironmentGlobal projects, including offshore, aerospace, and international construction sitesConstruction sites, bridges, buildings, and infrastructure projects
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by multinational companies working on international projectsPrimarily used in construction, infrastructure, and manufacturing industries

International Welding involves working on global projects with certifications suited for international standards, often in diverse environments. Structural Welding focuses on building and infrastructure projects, requiring specific certifications like AWS D1.1. Both roles share similar certification requirements but differ mainly in project scope and work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in international welding projects and how can these be addressed?

Professionals in international welding often encounter challenges such as adapting to varying welding standards, navigating language barriers, and managing different cultural approaches to safety and teamwork. To succeed, welders should familiarize themselves with global codes like ISO, AWS, or EN standards, and seek training or certification recognized internationally. Strong communication skills and flexibility are essential, as is a willingness to collaborate across multicultural teams to ensure quality and safety expectations are met in diverse project environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an international welder?

To thrive as an International Welder, you need advanced welding skills, knowledge of various welding techniques (such as TIG, MIG, and arc welding), and an International Welder certification, such as those from the International Institute of Welding (IIW). Familiarity with welding codes, standards, and inspection tools like ultrasonic and radiographic testing equipment is typically required. Attention to detail, adaptability to diverse work environments, and strong teamwork and communication skills help set top performers apart. These skills and qualifications are crucial to ensure high-quality, safe, and compliant welding work across global industries and projects.
