What is international recycling?

International recycling refers to the process of collecting, sorting, and processing recyclable materials across national borders. It involves exporting and importing recyclable goods such as plastics, metals, paper, and electronics to countries where they can be efficiently processed or reused. This global trade helps reduce waste in landfills, conserves resources, and supports the circular economy. However, international recycling also faces challenges like differing regulations, environmental concerns, and the need for transparency in handling waste materials.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in international recycling, and why are they important?

To excel in International Recycling, you typically need expertise in global waste management practices, environmental regulations, and supply chain logistics, often supported by a degree in environmental science or a related field. Familiarity with recycling technologies, compliance tracking systems, and international shipping documentation is essential. Strong communication, cultural awareness, and negotiation skills help build relationships across borders and navigate regulatory complexities. These skills ensure efficient, legal, and sustainable recycling operations in a global context.

Job description

Recycling Technician
Amigo Mobility International, Inc. has been an expert in mobility since 1968. Our family-owned business has grown to include four product lines – Healthcare, Grocery/Retail, Industrial and Aviation – each serving various markets while meeting different mobility needs. Amigo Mobility offers a workplace environment filled with creativity, professionalism, positive attitudes, and opportunities to learn and grow. We are a family that cares about customers, employees, and the local community.
In 2009, motorized cart recycling, a division of Amigo Mobility opened its doors as the first and only program of its kind. After years of working with grocery stores, they discovered warehouses, storage rooms and dumpsters were filled with motorized shopping carts, cart retrievers and more when their lifespan is over.
The mission of motorized cart recycling is closely tied to that passion by breaking down that used equipment into reusable parts rather than taking them to landfills. We buy used equipment directly from retailers nationwide. After quality testing, the warrantied parts are recycled, repurposed or recertified back into the marketplace for a lower cost than new parts.
We are proud to say that we have recycled over 10 million pounds of metal since 2009.
