What is an international QA engineer?

International QA Engineers are quality assurance professionals who focus on testing software products for global markets. Their responsibilities include verifying that software meets international standards, ensuring localization and internationalization, and identifying bugs or usability issues specific to various languages and regions. They often collaborate with developers and product teams to adapt products for different cultural and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of both software testing and cross-cultural considerations.

How does an international QA engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams?

International QA Engineers often work closely with development, product, and support teams that may be located in different countries and time zones. This requires strong communication skills and adaptability, as much of the collaboration happens through virtual meetings, shared documentation tools, and project management platforms. Regular coordination is needed to align testing schedules with global development cycles, address localization issues, and ensure quality standards are consistently met across regions. Building effective relationships and understanding cultural nuances can help streamline workflows and resolve challenges more efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an international QA engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an International QA Engineer, you need a solid understanding of software testing methodologies, quality assurance processes, and proficiency in programming or scripting languages, often backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with test automation tools (such as Selenium or JMeter), bug tracking systems, and internationalization/localization testing frameworks is typically required, and certifications like ISTQB can be advantageous. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and cultural awareness help you collaborate effectively with global teams and stakeholders. These skills ensure that software products meet quality standards across diverse markets, reducing defects and enhancing user satisfaction worldwide.

Job description

QA Engineer

At Rectangle Health, we believe that our team members are our most important asset. We grow our team by hiring best-in-class talent. We encourage all employees to contribute their individual talents and ideas to strengthen our team, our brand, and our services. We promote a culture that serves to empower and motivate employees beyond the standard corporate rhetoric one might see on motivational posters. Employees understand their individual roles in serving our customers, and this clarity of purpose encourages high job performance.

Position Overview

If you are looking to align yourself with two of the largest growth industries: healthcare and technology, while joining one of the fastest-growing companies within those segments, Rectangle Health is the place for you!

We are seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented, and self-directed QA Engineer with a strong background in automated UI and API testing. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of experience in quality assurance, with a proven track record of building and maintaining robust test automation frameworks. As a QA Engineer, you will be an essential part of our Engineering department,  helping to maintain and improve the innovative solutions that thousands of healthcare providers rely on every day. Your work safeguards the quality and reliability of our products, giving the organization the confidence to deliver quickly without compromising the trust our customers place in us.

Beyond technical ability, we're looking for someone who takes ownership, works proactively across teams, and follows through reliably once ramped up on their product area. Experience in the Payments domain and performance testing is a strong plus. You will receive the training, tools, and support to keep growing as a QA Engineer, including hands-on access to cloud environments and AI-assisted development tools.

Primary Job Duties:
  • Test Automation: Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts for UI and API testing across functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end coverage.
  • Test Planning & Strategy: Contribute to test planning, test reviews, and the continuous improvement of QA processes:  helping decide what to test, not just how to implement it.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with developers, product managers, and other QA engineers to understand requirements and ensure comprehensive test coverage.
  • Requirement Clarification: Proactively follow up with product and engineering to clarify requirements when ticket or acceptance details are incomplete.
  • Defect Reporting: Execute and analyze automated test results and report defects with detailed documentation.
  • CI/CD Integration: Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Documentation Ownership: Anticipate documentation needs and initiate them:  test coverage, processes, and automation workflows.
  • Agile Collaboration: Participate in sprint ceremonies and advocate for quality throughout the development lifecycle in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 2-4 years of experience in QA engineering with a focus on automation.
  • Proficiency in automated UI testing frameworks, preferably Playwright with JS/TypeScript.
  • Strong hands-on experience with API automation.
  • Solid understanding of QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions).
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
  • Experience working with AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude) to accelerate test development and debugging.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the Payments domain.
  • Exposure to performance testing tools (e.g., K6).
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS).
What We're Looking For:
  • Works independently once onboarded and manages priorities with minimal oversight.
  • Proactive - anticipates needs and moves work forward without waiting to be prompted on every step.
  • Collaborates effectively across engineering, product, and QA teams.
  • Highly organized, with strong follow-through and ownership of work through completion.
  • Resourceful - uses available documentation, tools, and data to find answers and gather information independently.
  • Receptive to feedback and committed to continuous learning and growth.
Compensation & Benefits:
  • $90,000 - $115,000 (commensurate with experience)
  • Competitive Medical Health Plans, Low, Mid, High.
    • Employer Paid Low Medical Plan for Employee & Dependents (HSA Eligible)
    • Employer Paid Dental & Vision for Employee
    • Employer Paid Life Insurance for Employee
    • Employer Paid Long-term Disability for Employee
    • Employer Paid Hospital Confinement for Employee ~ (If enrolled in Medical)
    • + Voluntary Supplemental Insurance Coverage Options
  • 15 days PTO & 7 Sick Days Annually
  • 10 Fixed Paid Holidays Off Annually
  • 401(k) Matching up to 3%
