Job Description

Assistant Controller

Department: Finance & Accounting

Reports To: Director of Finance

Location: 7000 Hochelaga, Montreal, QC H1N 1Y7

Position Summary

The Assistant Controller supports the Director of Finance in managing Primo International's day-to-day accounting operations, with a strong focus on the month-end close process, related-company and intercompany accounting, and treasury support activities. This role requires close coordination across the Accounts Receivable, Sales, Contracts, and factory teams to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting and strong internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

Month-End Close

•       Lead month-end close procedures, including journal entries, accrual updates, account reconciliations, and balance sheet netting.

•       Analyze the income statement and investigate variances.

•       Manage rebate provisions, approve rebate requests, and analyze rebate accruals.

•       Review month-end close tasks prepared by team members prior to posting.

•       Prepare and review monthly sales tax filings for Primo International.

•       Print and analyze the trial balance.

•       Maintain and analyze the balance sheet, ensuring account balances are accurate and properly supported.

•       Maintain inventory control procedures and accuracy.

Related Company Accounting

•       Support year-end close preparation for related companies.

•       Prepare monthly and quarterly sales tax filings for related companies.

•       Prepare quarterly factory reports for related manufacturing entities.

Other Responsibilities

•       Manage rebate programs for key retail accounts, including contract review, balance tracking, and monthly reporting.

•       Prepare KPI reports for executives.

Qualifications

•       Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

•       Demonstrated experience owning or supporting a full month-end close process, ideally in a multi-entity or intercompany environment.

•       Experience with rebate, deduction, or trade-spend accounting is an asset.

•       CPA designation, or actively pursuing one, is an asset.

•       Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

•       Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple recurring deadlines and reconciliations simultaneously.

•       Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in financial reporting.

•       Effective communicator, comfortable coordinating across Accounts Receivable, Sales, Contracts, and factory partners.

Work Environment

This position operates in a standard office environment and requires regular use of accounting and ERP software, spreadsheets, and financial reporting tools.
