Job Description:

The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) is the state's sales and marketing arm. It is Georgia's lead agency for attracting new business investment, encouraging the expansion of existing industry and small businesses, and locating new markets for Georgia products. As the state's official destination marketing organization, it drives traveler visitation and promotes the state as a location for film and digital entertainment projects. GDEcD is responsible for planning and mobilizing state resources for economic development, fostering innovation and the arts to drive opportunity from the mountains to the coast.

Georgia's nationally recognized Trade team works to bolster Georgia exports and brand the state as a competitive source of quality products and services. The team includes International Representatives located in more than a dozen strategic global markets who assist Georgia companies with expanding their sales worldwide. GDEcD's Trade professionals provide Georgia businesses with the global insight and connections they need to successfully diversify their international customer base.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The International Trade Manager works directly with Georgia companies, providing export counseling to increase international sales, and working in partnership with the economic development community to educate and inform on how exports are an economic development tool. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assist qualified exporters of products to develop or increase exports through one-on-one export consultation, development of an international business plan, and connections to qualified international contacts;
  • Develop an effective trade promotion program to recruit new companies and expand the Trade client base to increase exports statewide;
  • Connect with trade partners, initiate contact and build relations with local communities and industry associations;
  • Manage trade promotion events including trade shows, in-bound and out-bound buyer delegations and export seminars;
  • Perform research on potential international markets, market trends, trade policies, and other research related to export development; and
  • Other responsibilities include working closely with federal, state and local export promotion partners including the Small Business International Development Center, EXIM Bank, and the U.S. Commercial Service.

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in international business/trade, or closely related field, from an accredited college or university and either one year of sales and marketing experience in the private sector or one year of experience in export promotion with a state or federal trade promotion agency.
  • Sales experience
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Focus on collaborative approaches to project management
  • Detail oriented with ability to manage and follow through on multiple projects
  • Experience presenting to small groups
  • High proficiency with MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must maintain a valid State of Georgia driver's license and be able and willing to travel throughout the state

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in international business/trade, or closely related field, from an accredited college or university AND either three years of sales and marketing experience in the private sector or three years of experience in export promotion with a state or federal trade promotion agency.
  • Familiarity with export promotion programs
  • Knowledgeable in event planning and management
  • Experience with managing a sales territory and exceeding sales goals
  • Detail oriented with ability to manage and follow through on multiple projects
  • Experience giving presentations to large and small groups
  • Focus on collaborative approaches to project management
  • High proficiency with MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Travel and Weekends Hours Required:

  • Statewide and International travel as necessary
  • Nights and Weekends as necessary
