Join Aprio's Client Accounting Services team and you will help clients maximize their opportunities.  Aprio is a progressive, fast-growing firm looking for a Senior Accounting Associate to join their dynamic team.
 
The Senior Accounting Associate - Construction acts as the primary point of contact for clients on a day-to-day basis and is responsible for ensuring that all deliverables outlined in the MSA's are met. Client Leads are highly client-facing, proactive, and spend the majority of their time focused on client interaction to provide a hands-on white glove level of service to the construction clients we serve (including general contractors, subcontractors, specialty trades, and franchisee operators). This is a very hands on role within a highly collaborative, fast-paced, fast-growing, team-based delivery model. 
Position Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with global team daily to foster a highly collaborative and productive team environment. 

  • Acts as primary point of contact for construction clients. 

  • Highly client facing - prioritizes client contact over emails, including regular touchpoints with project managers and owners on job status. 

  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable for construction operations, including progress billings, retainage receivable/payable, and subcontractor payment applications. 

  • Completes ad hoc projects for clients as needed that require "rolling up your sleeves" and completing tasks such as job cost reconciliations and WIP schedule preparation and reconciliation to financials. 

  • Completes review of draft work papers, WIP schedules, and financials provided by global team and provides review notes back to the team. 

  • Perform job-level variance analysis (budget vs. actual, estimated cost to complete, over/underbillings) and deliver actionable commentary for client review. 

  • Ensures timely completion of client deliverables outlined in MSA's, including sending monthly financial reporting packs and WIP schedules to clients. 

  • Oversight and review of client job costing, change orders, billings/draws, retention/retainage tracking, and vendor compliance (COIs, W-9s, lien waivers). 

  • Utilize construction-specific ERP and project management systems. 

  • Assist clients during annual financial statement audits, reviews, surety/bonding reporting, and bank covenant compliance, and coordinate with external auditors, sureties, and bonding agents if needed. 

  • Ensures sound awareness of the client deliverables and manages scope creep, particularly around project-based work. 

  • Focuses on providing proactive advice and notifications to clients throughout the month, including cash flow forecasting tied to project draws and retention releases. 

  • Mentor newer associates and contribute to team development initiatives. 

  • Demonstrates understanding of Aprio services so that organic growth opportunities are identified for construction clients. 

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Accounting, CPA preferred. 

  • Industry-specific experience: 4+ years of accounting experience in public accounting, outsourced accounting, client accounting services, or Construction industry accounting environments. 

  • Delivers month-end financials, WIP reporting, and advisory work to construction clients. 

  • Proficient in knowledge of US GAAP and Accrual Accounting, including ASC 606 (revenue recognition) and construction-specific accounting principles. 

  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks Online and other Intuit products preferred.

  • Experience with bill pay applications (such as Bill.com or Ramp), payroll systems, project management or other cloud-based accounting applications is strongly preferred. 

  • Working knowledge of construction project management apps. 

  • Fosters an environment of continuous learning, seeking to become technically strong within the construction segment. 

  • Positive, highly professional attitude and desire to work within a global team. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite products, including Excel, Word, and Teams. 

$85,000 - $115,000 a year
The salary range for this opportunity is stated above. As such, an actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of the range, and in certain circumstances, may wind up being outside of the listed salary range.
