Job description

This role is located in Somerville, MA - We are a hybrid work environment and are in the office 3+ days/per week.
Tulip, the leader in AI-native frontline operations, is helping companies around the world equip their workforce with composable, connected apps, leading to higher quality work, improved efficiency, and end-to-end traceability across operations. Tulip's cloud-native, no-code platform, powered by embedded AI, is driving the digital transformation of industrial environments through composable, human-centric solutions that go beyond disrupting the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) category.
A spinoff out of MIT, Tulip is headquartered in Somerville, MA, with offices in Germany, Hungary, Singapore, and Israel. Tulip has been recognized as a World Economic Forum Global Innovator, a 2024 Deloitte Technology Fast award winner, one of Energage's Top Workplaces USA, and one of Built In Boston's "Best Places to Work" and "Best Midsize Places to Work."
About you
You're an engineer at heart who finds joy in building the software that other software runs on - and you think about that software like a product. Your customers happen to be other engineers, so you care about how the platform feels to use, not just whether it works. You believe a platform should be a set of robust, resilient, and intuitive libraries rather than a collection of scripts, and you're curious about where people get stuck and why. You're eager to use AI-assisted development tools to move faster, improve the developer experience, and make the platform more reliable.
What skills or experience do I need?
  • 3+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping complex backend systems
  • Strong skills in at least one modern backend programming language
  • Working knowledge of relational and non-relational databases
  • Solid understanding of cloud native or cloud hybrid solutions
  • A product mindset toward internal tooling - you seek out feedback from the engineers using what you build and iterate on it
  • Comfort using AI-powered engineering tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar) in your day-to-day workflow

Nice to have
  • Familiarity with our tech stack - Node.js, Go, TypeScript, React, RabbitMQ, MongoDB, Postgres, AWS
  • Prior experience developing tools that improve the developer experience
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines and working with containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Side projects or personal builds where you owned something end to end, from idea to real users

Key Responsibilities
  • Write and maintain clean, high-quality, efficient, and well-tested code that aligns with project specifications
  • Design and implement the abstractions that bridge the gap between software engineering and DevOps
  • Talk to the engineers who use the platform, find where they lose time, and help turn that into prioritized work
  • Partner with Product and Engineering counterparts to build tooling that teams actually adopt
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation that helps engineers self-serve
  • Use AI-assisted tooling and automation workflows to improve developer productivity, accelerate troubleshooting, and strengthen platform reliability

Key Collaborators
  • Engineering
  • DevOps
  • Product Management

Working At Tulip
We're building a strong, diverse team that values hard work, families, and personal well-being. Benefits of working with us include:
  • Direct impact on product and culture
  • Company equity
  • Competitive benefits package including Health, Dental, Vision, Short-term Disability, Long-term Disability, Life Insurance, AD&D, FSA, Commuter Benefits, Parental Leave, and 401(K)
  • Flexible work schedule and unlimited vacation policy
  • Virtual company events and happy hours
  • Fitness subsidies
  • Dog-friendly office
