Job Summary:
The Transportation Communications Specialist (TCS) at the LifeFlight Transport Coordination Center (TCC) coordinates ground transportation for patients to and from Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital, Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital, Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital, Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital, Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville, Vanderbilt Health One Hundred Oaks clinics, and various Vanderbilt Health freestanding clinics and surgery centers in the Nashville area.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate and document safe, efficient, and accurate ground transportation for patients.
  • Operate and maintain proficiency with advanced communication systems and equipment.
  • Provide clear, concise, and courteous information and emergency notifications to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage high-volume phone systems to ensure prompt and professional call handling.
  • Maintain composure and decision-making clarity in high-pressure and time-sensitive situations.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of medical terminology and local geography to support transport operations.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance skills and departmental support.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the TCC's mission.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
  • Listening (Intermediate): Demonstrates a high level of interest during all forms of communication, including conversations, seminars, and presentations.
  • Decision Making (Novice): Demonstrates the ability to make multiple decisions simultaneously which impact areas of direct responsibility. Takes ultimate responsibility for the problem [owns the problem] and the decisions. Able to make decisions effectively and accurately in an environment which may be fast-paced or changing.
