Job description

Job Overview

The Marketing & Strategic Communications Manager will own Vatn's brand voice, messaging, and go-to-market communications. This role combines strategic work, such as positioning, messaging, and executive communications, with hands-on execution, such as content creation, campaigns, events, and digital presence. The ideal candidate is a sharp writer who can manage a marketing calendar, and represent Vatn's story to customers, government stakeholders, and industry partners.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Positioning:

  • Develop and maintain Vatn's core messaging, positioning, and narrative across audiences, including government, defense industry, investors, and press.
  • Draft executive communications, including talking points and presentations. 
  • Manage press and media relations, including press releases, media inquiries, and interview prep.
  • Coordinate messaging around major company milestones, such as contract awards, demonstrations, and funding announcements.
  • Build and coordinate earned media opportunities, including traditional and emerging media outlets, podcasts, interviews, panel discussions, and other opportunities. 

Marketing Execution:

  • Plan and execute marketing campaigns across digital, print, and event channels.
  • Produce content including website copy, case studies, one-pagers, decks, and social media.
  • Maintain the company website and digital presence.

Brand & Creative Oversight:

  • Maintain brand consistency across all internal and external materials.
  • Manage relationships with outside vendors, including designers, videographers, and PR agencies as needed.
  • Develop templates and guidelines to keep company-wide materials on-brand.

Cross-Functional Coordination:

  • Partner with Growth, Government Relations, and other functions under the CGO to align marketing and communications with active pursuits and government engagement.
  • Work with Engineering and Programs to translate technical work into external-facing content.
  • Support internal communications, employee messaging, and internal brand awareness. 

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 4+ years in marketing, communications, or public relations, ideally within defense, government technology, or a startup environment. Military or defense sector experience a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent writer and editor, able to adapt tone across audiences, from technical to executive to public
    • Comfortable managing multiple concurrent projects and deadlines
    • Experience with content creation tools and familiarity with government or defense communications norms, including OPSEC and public affairs review

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position, on-site in Bristol, RI.
  • Some travel required for industry events, conferences, and demonstrations.
