COMMUNICATIONS INTERN
 City of Jonesboro | Communications Department

The City of Jonesboro is seeking a motivated college student to join the Communications Department as a Communications Intern.

This internship provides hands-on experience in local government communications, social media, public relations, digital media and community outreach. The Communications Intern will work alongside the City's Marketing & Community Outreach Coordinator and Digital Media Specialist to assist with day-to-day communications and special projects.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Communications Intern may assist with:

  • Drafting social media posts, announcements and other basic communications
  • Creating simple graphics and digital content for City social media platforms
  • Taking photos and video at City events, programs and community activities
  • Assisting with basic photo and video editing
  • Helping prepare and schedule social media content
  • Assisting with updates to City website content
  • Supporting City events, community meetings and outreach activities
  • Helping prepare flyers, presentations and other public information materials
  • Researching information for communications projects
  • Assisting with livestreams, public meetings and other digital media activities
  • Organizing photos, videos and other communications files
  • Helping track social media engagement and compile basic analytics
  • Assisting the Communications Department with special projects as needed

Assignments will vary depending on the intern's interests, experience and the needs of the department.

We are looking for a college student who is:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university
  • Interested in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, digital media, graphic design, broadcasting, public administration or a related field
  • A strong writer and communicator
  • Familiar with social media and digital platforms
  • Creative, organized, dependable and willing to learn
  • Comfortable working with a team and interacting professionally with City employees and the public
  • Interested in learning how communications and public information operate within local government

Experience with photography, video editing, graphic design, social media or other digital media tools is helpful but not required.
