Schedule: Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays 9:30 AM โ€“ 5:30 PM
Duration: 6 Weeks (Week of July 6 โ€“ Week ending August 15)
Pay Rate: $20.00/hour
Work Location: Randallโ€™s Island Park, New York, NY 10035
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
This internship is part of a four-week summer program, designed to provide hands-on experience, cross-departmental learning and professional development in urban environmental/non-profit careers. Interns will participate in workshops, career panels and a culminating project and will gain foundational experience in a professional setting. Funding for the program has been generously provided through the Pinkerton Foundation.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Communications Intern will report to the Communications Manager, while working closely with and taking occasional direction from the year-round Communications amp; Social Media Coordinator and Seasonal Media assistant. The Communications Intern will help ensure coverage of programming events, soccer games, as well as recreational and environmental usage in the park. The Intern will be required to work on-site, outdoors and on weekends and evenings.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
โ€ข Creatively capture and promote the park, including programming events, passive park usage, classes, sporting events, environmental interactions, etc., through photography and videos
โ€ข Create and write draft content for social media channels for the Communications department
โ€ข Collaborate with the Communications team on long-term tasks and projects
โ€ข Interact with park patrons and provide general park information with a welcoming and friendly demeanor
โ€ข Assist with administrative tasks such as completing simple reports, data entry, etc.
โ€ข All other general tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
โ€ข 18 years of age and above
โ€ข Experience using social media platforms
โ€ข Interest in public parks, the environment, sports, etc.
โ€ข Interest in learning to capture and edit all forms of content
โ€ข Ability to write professionally and clearly
โ€ข Ability to engage with colleagues and the public, bringing proactive energy to events and programs.
โ€ข Ability to collaborate and create positive working relationships
โ€ข Good planning, organizational and time management skills as well as strong attention to detail
โ€ข Motivated and punctual, able to work both independently and as part of a team
โ€ข Willing to work in all types of weather
โ€ข Ability to work nights, weekends, and overtime, when needed
PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
โ€ข Experience capturing content and using social media
โ€ข Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop) or other graphic design and video editing software
