Job Location: Sioux Falls, SD

At Houston Engineering, we believe in fostering the growth and development of the next generation of engineers through hands-on mentorship. Our internships provide valuable learning experiences, and many of our interns have continued their careers with us post-graduation, contributing to meaningful local projects.
A Civil Engineer Intern with Houston Engineering Inc. (HEI) will spend time in the field working on outdoor construction phase activities as well as a variety of in-office projects assisting engineers. 

Job Description

As an intern, responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

  • Assist with plan specifications and estimates as well as documenting construction activities.
  • Assist with AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and update redlines with various project set drawings.
  • Operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
  • Perform work in a variety of software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, etc.
  • Potential observation and data collection at different types of project sites.
  • Assist with research, development and design of projects.

We strive to provide a personalized internship based on your area of interest. This may include learning how to do roadway design, geometric layout, drainage analysis, and erosion control. 

Qualifications
  • Enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related Engineering program.
  • Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD are preferred.
  • Able to work extended periods of time in outdoor conditions.
  • Above average math and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and availability for overnight travel.
