Position Purpose:

The Outpatient Behavioral Health (OBH) Mental Health Intern will serve as a member of the Outpatient Behavioral Health (OBH) team. The Intern will practice, learn, and grow clinical skills and provide outpatient behavioral health treatment using evidence-based treatments with adults, children, and families under the supervision of a licensed clinical supervisor. The intern will perform initial behavioral health assessments, develop treatment plans, and deliver on-going care in accordance with the established treatment plan.


Essential Functions:

  • Works under the direct supervision of the OBH Intern Supervisor with support from OBH Services Supervisor and Vice President of Behavioral Health.
  • Utilizes clinical judgement in assessing patients' behavioral health condition(s) or immediate needs.
  • Applies high quality, appropriate evidence-based behavioral health treatment based on clinical diagnosis and assessment of the patient's presenting Treatment modalities include, but are not limited to, individual, family, and group therapies at any of the Aviva Health sites.
  • Accurately documents all clinical interventions, diagnosis, symptoms, and presenting problems in the Electronic Medical Record and completes notes in a timely manner as required for OBH policy and procedures.
  • Works collaboratively with providers including, but not limited to, Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Specialists, Nutritionists, Mental Health counselors and therapists, Clinical Psychologist(s), Medical assistants, pharmacy, and psychiatry providers.
  • Participate in weekly review of newly referred patients with complete Behavioral Health Department, including the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) and OBH teams.
  • Works with patients to develop evidence-based treatment plans and measurable goals, based on their social, emotional, and health needs.
  • Incorporates health and wellness education and referrals to preventative

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in their second year (ore equivalent) in an accredited university, Master's degree program in social work, psychology, counseling, or marriage and family counseling.
  • Ability to provide clinical treatment to children, adults, elderly, and families in individual, family, group, and crisis intervention modalities.
  • Current, active Basic Life Saving certification. Certification training available upon hire.
  • Must be able to interact with a variety of individuals at various levels under potentially stressful circumstances while exercising sound judgement, tact, ethics, and diplomacy.
  • Capacity to develop clinical assessment, diagnostic, and intervention skills.
  • Must be mission driven and passionate about providing caring and compassionate, high-quality care to the underserved in a healthcare setting.
