508 Compliance Specialist / Web Accessibility Specialist
Location: Washington, DC
Work Authorization: US Citizen

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced 508 Compliance Specialist / Web Accessibility Specialist to support Section 508 compliance testing and accessibility services for a federal government client. The successful candidate will perform accessibility assessments, manual and automated testing, document remediation, accessibility validation, and reporting for websites, web applications, electronic documents, software, spreadsheets, presentations, digital platforms, and other Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
The position will support accessibility governance and provide technical assistance to ensure ICT conforms to applicable Section 508 requirements and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) AA standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Section 508 accessibility audits and assessments of websites, web applications, software, electronic documents, spreadsheets, presentations, media files, and digital platforms.
  • Perform both automated and manual accessibility testing using industry-standard accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies.
  • Identify, document, prioritize, and track accessibility defects and compliance issues.
  • Develop clear and accurate Section 508 compliance reports, accessibility findings, and recommendations.
  • Perform document accessibility testing and remediation.
  • Support code correction and remediation of accessibility defects.
  • Test and validate accessibility using assistive technologies, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Configure and maintain accessibility testing tools and assistive technology testing environments.
  • Use accessibility testing platforms such as DeQue Systems axe Platform, WorldSpace Comply, and Attest and Assure.
  • Apply WCAG AA standards and applicable Section 508 requirements during accessibility assessments.
  • Work with GSA's IT Accessibility Program Accessibility Requirement Tool (ART).
  • Review and translate Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs) and Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs).
  • Log accessibility bugs and provide practical recommendations for remediation.
  • Provide helpdesk ticket support related to accessibility issues.
  • Support IT governance and lifecycle/investment reviews involving accessibility requirements.
  • Assist with accessibility awareness, training, and knowledge transfer for web and electronic content.
  • Prepare documentation, test results, and supporting evidence for compliance reviews.
  • Maintain quality and consistency of accessibility testing results.
  • Collaborate with developers, application teams, document owners, and government stakeholders to resolve accessibility issues.

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Section 508 compliance testing and accessibility services.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting accessibility audits, assessments, testing, validation, remediation, and documentation.
  • IAAP Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) certification or DHS Trusted Tester Certification.
  • Strong knowledge of Section 508 requirements and WCAG AA standards.
  • Experience with GSA Accessibility Requirement Tool (ART).
  • Experience with Acrobat Pro, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with automated accessibility testing tools, including one or more of:
    • DeQue Systems axe Platform
    • WorldSpace Comply
    • Attest and Assure
  • Experience configuring and using assistive technologies such as JAWS and NVDA.
  • Experience providing accessibility-related helpdesk support.
  • Strong analytical, technical documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting U.S. Federal Government agencies.
  • Experience with Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs), VPATs, and gap analyses.
  • Experience with electronic document remediation.
  • Experience supporting accessibility governance and IT investment/lifecycle reviews.
  • Experience training staff on accessibility testing and Section 508 compliance.
  • Knowledge of Sections 501, 504, and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, 36 CFR Part 1194, and FAR 48 CFR 39.204.

Education
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Accessibility, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related discipline is preferred. Equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered.
