JOB TITLE: Adaptive Programs Intern II
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Parks & Recreation
REPORTS TO: Recreation Supervisor
SUMMARY: The Adaptive Program Internship will be an integral part of the planning and execution of programs and events at various facilities and locations in Carrollton as well as trips within the DFW area. The intern will work under a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to assist with planning and executing programs designed for both children and adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities. This Intern will assist with the daily duties, social media marketing, and development of the current month's schedule. The intern will set up rooms and gather materials as needed. The intern will also assist in maintaining reports and simple data entry regarding participation as well as running the daily operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing, and evaluating adaptive programs, trips, and events.
  • Maintains and updates a variety of records and data collection.
  • Learn the daily operations including but not limited to: tours, opening/closing procedures, programs and event spaces.
  • Aid front desk and guest service to the general public, which includes providing tours, answering telephones, and/or performing other related activities.
  • Coordinates and/or participates in a variety of meetings, seminars, conferences, training sessions, and/or other related events.
  • Assists with special events, which includes: setting up and tearing down for events; ensuring applicable equipment and supplies are readily available; and/or, performing other related activities.
  • Publicizes, markets, and promotes programs using a variety of media sources; oversees the distribution and/or dissemination of promotional materials.
  • Monitors guests utilizing of the facility. Identifies and resolves potentially hazardous situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of modern office equipment.
  • Knowledge of program marketing theories, principles, and practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable age-appropriate activities, programs, and materials.
  • Knowledge of community demographics;
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, codes, regulations, policies, rules, and regulations.

  • Skilled in overseeing recreation program sites and equipment;
  • Skilled in planning, developing, supervising, and managing programs and/or events;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Currently enrolled in, or graduated from, a university or community college
  • Maintaining a 2.5 GPA or better
  • Responsible for your own transportation

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Frequent reaching, sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, talking, seeing, hearing, and manual dexterity.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Work is typically performed in a standard office environment. Depending on area of assignment, may occasionally work in outdoor environments, with potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.
  • Nights and weekends are Required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Must pass criminal history check.
  • Must pass motor vehicle records check.
  • Position is 20 hrs per week.
