CHICAGO YOUTH WORKS - INTERN

WILBUR WRIGHT COLLEGE

Chicago Youth Works is the City of Chicago's signature youth employment initiative, bringing together government institutions, companies, and community-based organizations to offer employment and internship opportunities to youth and young adults ages 14 to 24. Youth participants gain valuable paid work experience, develop new tools for success, and make a difference in their communities.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The Chicago Youth Works initiative encourages students to gain experience in their prospective fields by placing them in areas and departments aligned with their area of study whenever possible. Students are able to use their wages towards educational and living expenses.

Chicago Youth Works jobs are available in areas such as academic departments, laboratories, libraries, administrative offices, student centers and off-campus locations.

DEPARTMENT LOCATIONS

         Student Activities: Serves as first point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Assists with general office work. Provides support in the planning and execution of various cultural, social, and educational activities and events. Preparing inventory management system for Student Activities.

         First Year Experience: Support the in-person New Student Orientation sessions by welcoming and guiding students to the labs. Support with student outreach via phone calls to remind students about RAMS Week, New Student Orientation, and other FYE related activities. Connect with new Summer Start students in-person on campus and guide them to the campus resources. Support with FYE led events/workshops.

         Adult Education: Supports the Adult Education Department by assisting staff, instructors, and students with front-desk support, answering phones, greeting, and directing students, The role also includes offering general customer service, helping students access resources, and ensuring a welcoming and organized environment for Adult Education learners.

         Intercollegiate & Intramural Athletics: Provides assistance to athletic programs/activities. Assists with intercollegiate and intramural activities/events, including setup and clean up duties at games and practices. Conducts equipment/inventory reviews and researches potential purchases.

         Career Development Center: Provides support to students seeking job placement services. Assists in the maintenance of contact lists for employers, community-based organizations, and various groups. Assists with Career Development Center Zoom chat.

         Enrollment Management: Provides direction, instruction, and support to prospective students seeking to complete the online application via the Admission Zoom chat or in-person. Conducts campus tours and call campaigns.

         Advising and Transfer: Provides support to new and returning students seeking to schedule appointments with college advisors. Assists with new student orientation, call campaigns, and Advising Zoom chat. Supports with mailings and general office work.

         Food Pantry/Student Services: Support with food loading and distribution/ Administrative duties in the office to support our Admin team.

         Humboldt Park: Provides support to day-to-day functions of the office. Serves as first point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Assists with general office work. Provides support for our CTE department.

         Information Technology (IT): Provides basic office support and a variety of assistances to the Information Technology department.

         Library: Greets students, faculty, and staff entering the library and assists with day-to-day functions of department, including circulation activities. Monitors use of library equipment and materials. Supports work on various projects and assignments, as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

         Assists at reception desk, greeting students, faculty and staff entering office.

         Assists staff in the day-to-day functions of the office. 

         Provides support on various projects and assignments as needed. 

         Provides general administrative support including but not limited to maintaining digital and physical records, preparing documents, faxing, photocopying, and data entry. 

         Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Services Excellence Standards.

         Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Eligibility Requirements:

         Applicants must be 18 years or older, have work permit consent, and be eligible to work in the United States.

         Applicants must be a City of Chicago resident.

         Applicants must be current City Colleges of Chicago students who were or are enrolled in at least one semester of the current academic year.

         Applicants must not be current Full or Part-time employees of the City Colleges of Chicago.

         All positions are "employment at-will".

         Applicants must complete the Chicago Youth Works application.

Minimum Qualifications:

         Available to participate in the program from late June through late July. Dates may vary based on the needs of the department or partner organization.

         Excellent verbal communication skills.

         Excellent customer service skills.

         Good interpersonal skills with a positive attitude, professionalism, and initiative.

         Ability to serve as a positive role model and represent City Colleges of Chicago in a professional manner.

         Experience with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).

Salary:

         $17.00/hr.

         The rate paid is in accordance with City Colleges approved salary scale.
