Job description

The Convention Services Manager maintains client relationships throughout the convention planning lifecycle, coordinating destination service plans, supporting convention performance and attendee engagement, and mobilizing hospitality and community partners to create successful meeting experiences. This role works collaboratively among Explore St. Louis departments plus hotels, venues, restaurants, attractions, transportation providers, public agencies, community organizations, and other partners to help clients successfully navigate and engage with the St. Louis destination.
Hospitality is central to the role. The Convention Services Manager will proactively work to anticipate meeting needs, eliminate obstacles, facilitate connections, resolve issues, and help create successful opportunities and experiences for clients and attendees' meetings in St. Louis.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage assigned convention and meeting accounts, including key and citywide groups.
  • Develop customized client service strategies based on meeting objectives, attendee needs, operational requirements, and desired destination experiences.
  • Build trusted client relationships and serve as the primary connection to Explore St. Louis services and destination resources.
  • Plan and conduct client planning visits, destination tours, pre-convention meetings, site visits, and on-site convention support.
  • Connect clients with hotels, venues, restaurants, attractions, transportation, suppliers, community organizations, public agencies, and other local resources.
  • Monitor convention performance and emerging client needs. Work collaboratively to identify solutions and opportunities.
  • Support attendance-building, pre-promotional, destination-marketing, and attendee-engagement strategies in partnership with clients and internal teams.
  • Develop hospitality and attendee-experience strategies including Welcome Programs, VIP services, accessibility resources, Guest Care, destination experiences, and community engagement.
  • Support Host Committees, corporate social responsibility initiatives, local business engagement, and other opportunities that connect conventions with the St. Louis community.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of St. Louis and confidently represent the destination to clients, attendees, industry partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Manage assigned client-service commitments, budgets, expenses, documentation, and post-convention reporting.
  • Contribute client insights, destination intelligence, and lessons learned to strengthen future convention experiences and continuous improvement.

Our ideal candidate will be a relationship-driven hospitality professional who combines strong account management, meeting and event planning, destination knowledge, problem solving, and professional judgment. This individual should be comfortable managing multiple priorities, building relationships across organizations, presenting to clients and groups, and working collaboratively in a dynamic hospitality environment. This position requires schedule flexibility to include occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and business travel based on convention and client needs.
