Role: Senior Microsoft SQL Developer

Location: Mechanicsville, VA Hybrid

Duration: 12 Months

Interview: Phone + In-Person

Note:

This role follows a hybrid work schedule requiring the developer to be onsite 1 day per week. Only local candidates will be considered for this position.

Position Summary:

The Senior Microsoft SQL Developer will support the modernization of an enterprise tolling transaction platform undergoing a partial rewrite using microservices and modularization. This role is a critical part of the Agile/Scrum project team and is responsible for developing, optimizing, and modernizing SQL components within a business-critical, high-availability SQL Server environment running on Azure Virtual Machines (IaaS). The developer will collaborate with solution architects, cloud engineers, API developers, and testers to ensure high performance, scalability, and maintainability of the database platform, reporting to the Development Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize T-SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and views to support new application capabilities.
  • Perform advanced performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization for a business-critical SQL environment.
  • Modernize existing SQL components while supporting legacy SQL code and structures.
  • Support new feature development aligned with the microservices-based application modernization approach.
  • Collaborate with .NET Core/C# developers to ensure efficient data access patterns and API/database integrations.
  • Participate in modernizing existing database models to support modular, scalable architecture.
  • Support and maintain high availability environments using Always On availability groups.
  • Develop migration scripts, ETL logic, and integration solutions using SSIS and Databricks.
  • Ensure PCI compliance requirements are followed and implement data retention rules as required.
  • Contribute SQL-related changes through CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and GitHub workflows.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and deliver assigned work within established sprint cycles.

Required Skills:

  • 7 10+ years of SQL Server development experience in enterprise environments.
  • Advanced T-SQL development skills including query tuning and performance optimization.
  • Experience developing in SQL Server on Azure VM (IaaS) environments.
  • Hands-on experience supporting high availability architectures using AlwaysOn availability groups.
  • Experience modernizing database code and schemas, including legacy SQL support.
  • Experience building ETL solutions using SSIS and Databricks.
  • Experience collaborating with .NET Core/C# development teams.
  • Experience deploying SQL updates through Azure DevOps and GitHub CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ability to work effectively within Agile/Scrum teams.
