Position: SQL Server Developer/ DBA

Location - Richmond VA (Locals Only)

Duration - 6 months

Qualifications:

Extensive leadership experience analyzing query performance, both at the macro (workload) and micro (individual query) level, with the ability to identify process, server, database, and/or schema object tuning necessary to improve the throughput.

Leadership experience with physical implementation on SQL Server, including the ability to identify necessary disk, CPU and memory configurations to support the anticipated load and the ability to ask the right questions to determine the anticipated load.

Experience benchmarking the performance of a SQL Server implementation would be extremely helpful.

Experience with Federated SQL Servers, SQL Server Replication, and PDW would be extremely helpful.

Leadership experience with large tables and the use of SQL Server facilities to manage them.

Should be completely comfortable with at least SQL Server 2008, but ideally SQL Server 2014, with the ability to leverage specific features of the product to solve business problems.

Experience managing the schema for a database across environments (dev, test, prod) and for a sizeable development team (30+ Developers)

Experience with both third-normal form databases as well as star-schema marts, ideally through hands-on experience with Data Warehousing

Experience with database tuning in support of Cognos would be an asset.

Ability to work with very little direction, verbal or written, by identifying gaps in knowledge and actively seeking the answers.

Ability to analyze problems and recommend solutions, including being able to explain the pros and cons of all considered options

Excellent written and verbal communication skills will be required to effectively deal with all project stakeholders.

Ability to explain concepts at a high-level, but also to work at a very low level with strong attention to detail.

Knows when to make independent decisions and when to circle back with appropriate questions.

Four-year degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent academic background.
