Job description

Department:                      Department of Subways 
Location:                           New York, NY 10019
Position Title:                    Data Analyst, Emerging Talent Intern
Hourly Rate:                     $21.00 (Graduate)
 
All internship positions are onsite and require regular, in-person attendance at the designated work location.
 
 
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:
The Operations Control Center serves as the central hub for system-wide operations within the (MTA). It is responsible for monitoring train movement, dispatching personnel, and managing incidents, delays, train failures, emergencies, and other critical events in real time.
The selected intern will support the Performance Analysis and CBTC Operations and Development Department. Within Performance Analysis, the intern will work with critical internal train performance data to help identify trends, improve service reliability, and support data-driven decision-making. Additionally, the intern will collaborate with the CBTC Operations team, which oversees projects related to CBTC technology—a system that continuously monitors and manages train movement to enhance operational efficiency and service performance.
 
This assignment will support the department by enhancing operational efficiency and data-driven decision making. Intern will help improve key performance metrics, enabling leadership to monitor service and respond proactively. Intern will assist in Automating repetitive tasks to reduce manual effort, minimizes errors, and allows management to focus on higher priority task.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform administrative tasks assigned by management.
  • Track meeting discussions and provide detailed notes.
  • Perform general data entry in Excel and other applications. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues and discrepancies across multiple databases.
  • Assist with cleaning and formatting data in Excel and other tools.
  • Analyze and validate data errors within internal systems.
  • Import and extract data from Access databases and internal systems such as ITRAC, STARS, and IRails.
  • Develop and support reporting tools to display internal data and key performance metrics.
  • Willingness to perform administrative and other assigned tasks as needed. 
 
PROJECTS:
  • Develop and maintain dashboards to communicate operational activities and support reporting needs.
  •  Assist in creating automation and workflows to improve efficiency and reduce repetitive tasks.
  • Support management in tracking and monitoring upcoming internal projects and general work in the field.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must, including PowerApps, Power BI, SharePoint, and Microsoft Lists.
  • The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills. 
  • The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.
  • Basic understanding of database structures and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of data visualization techniques and report creation
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with at least 2.8 GPA
  • Major(s) Preferred: Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or related field.
