What You Can Expect Working in the Drafting Intern Position 


The Drafting Intern position  works daily with Project Managers, manufacturing, Sales and Estimating,  Engineering, and Fabrication teams producing workable drawing sets of various  disciplines. They rely on software such as AutoCad, Inventor, and or Revit to  produce accurate two and three-dimensional models of building  (blast/non-blast, and security-related) projects. Additionally, they will help  review engineering design drawings (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, gas  detection, and fire alarm/sprinkler drawings) to resolve any potential  conflicts or discrepancies with the model for clash and general coordination. The  Drafting Intern will also work to notify engineers and project managers of any  design conflict that may occur during the review process and offer solution-based  thinking using industry knowledge, methods of construction, and company  accepted process and procedures. Modeled disciplines consist of shop drawings,  Structural design, and Architectural views. As an Intern for the department,  you will be working closely with various drafting team members learning the  company and the role as it fits the vision of the company.


Responsibilities 

  • Assists in creating various models for assigned projects.
  • Supports with coordination and compilation of multiple disciplines pertaining to construction/manufacturing. 
  • Aids in the review of project models for clash and workability.
  • Develops skills and knowledge of various machines, engineering and construction practices to aid in generating complete and        accurate production/shop/permit ready detail drawings. 
  • Completes primary work utilizing AutoCad, Revit, and  Inventor. 
  • Supports the team by capturing and gathering field changes from the production/fabrication team to create as-built drawings  according to RedGuard's Document Control requirements. 
  • Learns the skillset needed to help answer questions or provide directions to complete various project related tasks. 
  • Conducts walkthroughs of the fabrication and production floor to visually verify that methods align with the approved design and to coordinate any as-built changes to the project.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree or certification in Drafting, Engineering, Architecture, MEP Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of CAD software (Inventor,  Revit, AutoCAD); coursework or field experience will be considered.
  • Interest in manufacturing, engineering, or  construction processes and industries.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook,  Word, Excel, Project).
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Eager to learn, ask questions, and collaborate with team members.
