What is a remote internship?

A remote internship is a temporary work experience where interns perform tasks and projects for a company or organization from a location outside of the traditional office, usually from home. These internships leverage digital communication tools such as email, video conferencing, and online collaboration platforms to connect interns with their supervisors and teams. Remote internships offer flexibility, allow students and recent graduates to gain professional experience regardless of geographic location, and help develop valuable remote work skills. They are available across various fields, including marketing, technology, finance, and more.

How do remote interns typically stay connected with their team and receive feedback during their internship?

Remote interns often use collaboration tools such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, or Zoom to stay in touch with their team members and supervisors. Regular check-ins, virtual team meetings, and scheduled one-on-one sessions are common practices for providing guidance and feedback. Interns are encouraged to proactively reach out with questions and updates, as open communication is key to a successful remote internship experience. Many organizations also set up mentorship programs or buddy systems to help interns feel supported and integrated into the company culture.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Intern, you need a basic understanding of your field of study, strong organizational skills, and enrollment in a relevant educational program. Familiarity with digital collaboration tools like Zoom, Slack, Google Workspace, and project management software is typically expected. Proactive communication, time management, and the ability to work independently are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure you can contribute effectively, stay engaged, and build professional relationships despite the virtual work environment.

Job description

Title: Google SEO & Reviews Specialist Intern - Skyhawks Sports (Treasure Valley)
Local Prospects will have priority.

When a Boise parent Googles "youth soccer camp near me," we want to be the first result they see. When a Meridian mom checks our reviews at 10pm before signing up, we want her to see dozens of real families vouching for us. We need an intern to make that happen.

Skyhawks Sports operates across 7+ cities in the Treasure Valley. Our Google presence is where thousands of parents find us every year, and it is where our next thousand will find us. We are looking for a detail-oriented intern who wants to own our Google Business Profiles, our local SEO, and our review strategy.

THE ROLE:
This is a specialist role focused on one thing: making sure Skyhawks dominates local search in every city we serve. You will not be running general marketing. You will go deep on Google.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Optimize our Google Business Profiles across every Treasure Valley city we operate in.
  • Build and execute a review generation strategy that gets happy parents to leave real reviews.
  • Respond to reviews (positive and negative) with care and professionalism.
  • Improve our local SEO rankings for camps, classes, and youth sports keywords.
  • Post weekly updates, offers, and photos to our GBP listings.
  • Track our ranking positions and search visibility over time.
  • Report weekly on what is moving and what is not.
  • Use creative liberties to keep us ahead of the competition.

YOU'RE OUR PERSON IF:
  • You are currently enrolled in a college or university program (college credit preferred).
  • You are knowledgeable about how local search works.
  • You are organized, patient, and detail-oriented (this work rewards consistency).
  • You have taken an SEO course, run a GBP, or done keyword research (bonus, not required).
  • You can manage your own time with 6 to 10 flexible hours per week.
  • You care about doing work that compounds over time.
  • You want to be apart of a growing organization that impacts kids, coaches, and community.

WHAT YOU'LL GAIN:
  • College credit for an accredited internship experience.
  • Portfolio evidence of ranking a real business in a real market.
  • Full ownership of our Google presence.
  • Mentorship on local SEO and small business growth fundamentals.
  • Flexible hours around your class schedule.
  • A letter of recommendation for standout contributors.
  • The satisfaction of seeing your work drive real families into our programs.

DETAILS:
  • College credit.
  • 6 to 10 hours per week, flexible scheduling.
  • Remote friendly (this is desk work).
  • Start date flexible.
  • Free or reduced program rates for intern's family.
  • Coaching available if local and interested. See hourly wage.

TO APPLY, email boise@skyhawks.com with:
  • Your college and major.
  • Whether you can receive college credit.
  • Any SEO coursework, certifications, or projects you have done.
  • 2 to 3 sentences on what you would look at first if you took over our Google presence.
  • Why this role interests you specifically.
  • What is the most important thing in your life.
