The mission of the City of Dublin's Police Internship Program is to create an opportunity for individuals interested in a career in law enforcement, public safety, criminal justice and/or public administration to gain relevant experience while working side-by-side with industry professionals. We ask that the cover letter expand upon your motivations for applying to this internship, your career goals and what you hope to gain from the experience.*** Scheduling/Availability Must be available to work in-person in Dublin, Ohio (no remote opportunities available) The Dublin Police Internship operates as a structured 16-week program and attendance policies must be adhered to Each work-week will consist of approximately three 8-hour days Success in this program requires a commitment to a demanding and structured schedule created to make these opportunities possible This structured timeline can be flexible depending on the successful candidate's program/graduation requirements Interns are expected to work 20-25 hours per week through the duration of their program Personal matters requiring leave is permitted, however, the successful candidate acknowledges this will result in unpaid leave Note: This is a part time, hourly position that is not eligible for a comprehensive benefits package. Tasks may be assigned to the Intern at the discretion of the Operations Bureau Commander, Internship Sergeant, or other department supervisor and may be selected based on the interests of the Intern

It is the Intern's responsibility to take ownership of the tasks and complete them with a focus on quality. Below are examples of tasks that may be covered by the Intern and Mentor: Work on an internship project Gain knowledge of agency Core Values, Mission, Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics policies Education on relevant case law Education of agency RTR, less lethal weapons and pursuit policies Ride-alongs Property impounding Records department Tactics scenarios Ticket filling Units to shadow: Community Impact Unit (CIU), Detective Bureau, School Resource Officer Program, Prosecutor's Office, Northwest Regional Communications Center (NRECC), Public Safety Liaison Coordinator, Business District Unit (BDU), Drone and the Delaware Tactics Unit. Typical Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age or older Possession of a valid driver's license Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree seeking program with a minimum Junior (Rank 3) standing Pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Forensic Science, Public Administration or another related field Availability to work three 8-hour days per week for the entirety of the 16-week internship program Offer of employment will be conditional on successful completion of a background investigation (criminal record check, FBI and BCI fingerprinting), reference check, drug screen and psychological evaluation Core Competencies The Intern shall: Respect and follow the directions of their mentor when engaged in department activities Follow the agency's Code of Conduct and Core Values policies Ask questions and actively engage in exercises and discussions in order to take advantage of this opportunity Present one's self in a professional manner, with the "uniform" depending on the needs/tasks of the day Remain flexible and adapt to any last minute changes in daily activities Maintain confidentiality as documented in the Confidentiality Agreement required for participating in the Internship Program Comply with all requirements set forth by the Intern's school (if applicable) and maintain all necessary paperwork Adhere to the attendance requirements set forth in the Internship Program Commit to the demanding and structured schedule created to make these opportunities possible Supplemental Information: All positions within this job classification have been designated as Casual in nature and all employees serving in such positions are considered to be Casual Employees.
