Job Description:

Under the supervision of licensed staff psychologists, the Psychology Intern will provide psychological evaluation, consultation and intervention services. The Psychology Intern is a vital member of a multi-disciplinary team that may include psychiatrists, APPs, psychologists, master's level therapists, medical assistants, and other disciplines that provides holistic or comprehensive medical and mental health services to patients. The Psychology Intern receives training and supervision designed to meet the competencies specified by APA and to prepare the intern for future practice as a Psychologist.

Essential Functions

  • Assesses the patient's medical history, mental health history, and current presentation to understand the patient's needs from treatment.
  • Diagnoses and treats various mental, emotional and behavioral disorders, which may include psychotherapy or psychological testing.
  • Develops a plan of care either individually or with input from the patient, patient family/significant others, physicians and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Provides treatment based on patient need and evidenced-based interventions.
  • Refers patients to other services to improve their well-being. These referrals may include community services, treatment programs, support groups, and/or psychiatrists (or other mental health providers).
  • Properly documents pertinent information regarding the patient's plan of care.
  • Consults with the multi-disciplinary team to develop treatment plans, behavior plans and discharge plans.
  • Participates in supervision and didactic trainings per internship requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and assess various nonverbal cues used in patient diagnosis/assessment in order to understand and develop treatment options.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, as well as hear and respond quickly to emergent needs or issues that may arise with patients.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, etc.
