Job description

Introduction: Are you passionate about enhancing power distribution systems and shaping the future of energy? Join our Distribution Planning team, where you'll play a pivotal role in upgrading, maintaining, and automating power distribution systems. Collaborate with diverse teams and bring your expertise to solve complex challenges in the energy sector.

Responsibilities:

This position offers remote, hybrid, and in-office options depending on location.

As a Distribution Planning Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of upgrading, expanding, improving, maintaining, and automating power distribution systems. You'll perform essential protection and coordination studies, identify and solve issues involving substations and multiple feeders, and conduct scenario-based planning studies to recommend effective solutions.

Developing medium- and long-range distribution plans focusing on load relief, capacity, and reliability will be a key part of your role. You'll create and maintain computer models and their underlying databases for electric distribution systems, and conduct load forecasts, including DER, energy storage, and emerging electrification-related loads. You'll collaborate closely with internal teams, such as transmission, substation, and distribution design teams as well as the SCADA Automation team, to ensure seamless integration and efficiency. Lastly, you'll work independently while also coaching and mentoring less experienced engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related
  • 2+ years of experience in electric utility
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following: CYME Dist, CYMTCC, Synergi, Milsoft Windmil or ASPEN One-
  • Experience with grid planning challenges such as protection and control, wildfire mitigation, FLISR, DER, system impact studies, sectionalizing studies, arc flash analysis, energy storage, etc..
  • Ability to travel up to 5% as required to support clients and
Preferred Qualifications:
  • EIT/FE and PE highly
  • Knowledge of software automation and
  • Basics and fundamentals of Protective Device Coordination and TCC review.
  • Knowledge of Arc Flash analysis and relevant Standards such as IEEE 1584, OSHA 1910.269 App E, NFPA 70E
  • Proficiency in developing data analysis tools within Excel, Python or Major data analysis environments.
