Job description

The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute thatย seeksย to improve the systems of democracy and justice in the United States. We work to hold our political institutions and laws accountable to the twin American ideals of democracy and equal justice for all. The Brennan Centerโ€™s work ranges from voting rights to campaign finance reform, from ending mass incarceration to preserving constitutional protections in national security policies. Partย thinkย tank, part advocacy group, partย cutting-edgeย communications hub, we start with rigorous research. We craft innovative policies. And we fight for themย โ€”ย in Congress and the states, in the courts, and in the court of public opinion.โ€ฏย ย ย
We are seeking an intern to join ourย Communicationsย departmentย on the Design teamย to provide design and administrative support toย staffs.ย

Note:ย This internship is in-person at ourย New Yorkย office.ย

Responsibilities:ย ย
The intern willย assistย with graphic design, archival and photo research, and administrative work for the Brennan Center, including but not limitedย toย coordinating meetings, and drafting routine correspondence through email. Additionally, there will be opportunities to attend andย observeย substantive meetings, events, and conversations on program work.ย Applicantย must be open to evolving responsibilities.ย
In addition to duties listed above, specific responsibilities for the Design team include:ย

  • Producingย still and motion graphics for digital channelsย

  • Completingย extensiveย image and archive researchย andย researchย on Brennan Center issues to develop engaging graphicsย

  • Supportingย development of institutional, campaign, and brand videos/graphics; motion and still research,ย catalogingย and organization of visual assetsย

  • Maintainingย multimediaย archive: graphics,ย imagesย and video.ย

Qualifications:ย ย
The ideal candidates are independent self-starters; detail-oriented; energetic; punctual; and highly organized. Interns must also have excellent design skills, as well as a passion for our issues.ย

  • Experience with Adobe applications, including InDesign andย Photoshopย isย a must.ย

  • A link to your portfolio, or a pdf,ย containingย your best quality work must beย submittedย for your application to be considered.ย

We are committed to considering a wide range of candidates, including those with diverse experiences and backgrounds. Whether you are new to the nonprofit law and policy sector, returning to work after a gap in employment, looking to make a career transition, orย seekingย to advance your professional path, we welcome your application.ย ย ย
Ifย youโ€™reย uncertain about meeting 100 percent of our qualifications, we encourage you to apply anyway. In your cover letter, please describe your interest in the position and what you hope to contribute to the role.ย
ย

This internship is only open to undergraduate students for Fall 2026.ย

Hours:ย Approximately 10ย โ€“ 20 hours per weekย
Pay:ย $18.40ย per hourโ€ฏโ€ฏย
Duration:ย September โ€“ December 2026ย
Application Deadline:ย Julyย 24, 2026ย
Note:ย The Brennan Center will follow the rules of your schoolย regardingย internships. Therefore, if a schoolย doesnโ€™tย allow you to do a paid internship for some reason (i.e., receiving credit, etc.), then your internship will not be paid. In addition, if you areย participatingย in a formal school internship program that allows you to work more than our stated hours, we willย make a determinationย based on our needs and further assessment of your schoolโ€™s program.ย
