Job description

Proposal: Summer Internship Program – Supply Chain Inventory Optimization Initiative

Submitted By: Brent Mosley
Department: Supply Chain
Location: El Reno Manufacturing (ERM), Flogistix

Purpose

The Supply Chain organization proposes participation in the Summer Internship Program to support a focused initiative at Flogistix to identify, evaluate, and resolve excess and obsolete inventory across the organization while advancing efforts to reduce part number proliferation.

Inventory optimization and part standardization remain key operational priorities. While improvements in planning and procurement processes have reduced future exposure, a structured review of legacy inventory and part-number usage is necessary to determine appropriate disposition paths and to identify opportunities to consolidate or standardize parts where practical.

This internship will provide a dedicated resource to lead a structured review and coordination effort across supply chain, engineering, operations, and warehouse teams to identify excess inventory, evaluate disposition options, and highlight areas for improved part standardization.

Strategic Focus: Excess & Obsolete Inventory Reduction and Part Number Rationalization

The primary objective of this internship is to lead a structured review of excess and obsolete inventory and to identify opportunities to reduce part proliferation across Flogistix.

This initiative will support:

  • Reduction of inventory carrying costs
  • Improved visibility into inventory aging and usage trends
  • Identification of duplicate or redundant part numbers
  • Opportunities to consolidate parts where engineering approval allows
  • Recovery of potential value from unused materials
  • Alignment between engineering, operations, and supply chain on disposition and standardization decisions

Proposed Internship Role

Supply Chain Inventory Optimization Intern

Objective:
Lead a focused review initiative to identify excess and obsolete inventory and support part number rationalization efforts across Flogistix.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis of inventory aging and slow-moving materials to identify excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Coordinate cross-functional reviews with engineering, operations, and warehouse teams to evaluate identified materials.
  • Identify opportunities where duplicate or redundant part numbers may be consolidated or standardized.
  • Develop and maintain reporting that tracks excess and obsolete inventory and potential disposition paths.
  • Evaluate and recommend potential disposition options including:
    • Internal reuse opportunities
    • Engineering-approved substitutions
    • Supplier return or credit opportunities
    • Resale or scrap disposition where applicable
  • Track progress and document disposition decisions and part rationalization opportunities.

Program Structure

Proposed Duration:
10–12 weeks during the summer internship period.

Location:
El Reno Manufacturing (ERM)

Supervision:
The intern will report directly to the Director of Supply Chain and work closely with procurement, planning, engineering, operations, and warehouse personnel to coordinate the initiative.

Organizational Benefit

Participation in the Summer Internship Program will support Flogistix operations by:

  • Accelerating the review and resolution of excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Supporting initiatives to reduce part proliferation and improve part standardization.
  • Creating improved visibility into inventory health across the organization.
  • Driving cross-functional collaboration between engineering, operations, and supply chain.
  • Delivering measurable operational improvements through a structured inventory optimization effort.

Requested Allocation

The Supply Chain organization respectfully requests allocation of:

1 Summer Intern position

This role will lead the structured review and coordination effort supporting excess and obsolete inventory reduction and part number rationalization across Flogistix while operating from El Reno Manufacturing.
