Job description

Overview

Performs venipunctures, heelsticks, and fingersticks to obtain blood samples for testing purposes.  Properly identifies patients and follows procedures for collection of specimens.  Processes and receives specimens into the laboratory, following laboratory protocol for specimen acceptability and rejection.  Enters outpatient orders into Laboratory Information System.  Collects chain of custody drug screens for pre-employment, post-accident, and just cause cases according to protocol.  Assists with frozen sections and clerical duties as needed.  Performs other related functions as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: A high school diploma or GED; Completion of a formal training course in phlebotomy procedures from an accredited school or training program preferred. 

Experience: One year phlebotomy experience including obtaining specimens from neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients is preferred.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required along with moderate knowledge of medical terminology.

Licenses/Certificates: Current BLS certification upon hire or completed within 30 days of hire
