Job description

The Duckhorn Portfolio is North America’s premier luxury wine company. We were established in 1976 by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn. Today, our portfolio features some of North America’s most revered wineries, including Decoy, Paraduxx, Goldeneye, Migration, Canvasback, Calera, Kosta Browne, Greenwing and Postmark.

We seek a Seasonal Lab Intern to join the team. This role is responsible for fermentation monitoring, tank and barrel sampling, and wine analysis. It is expected that repeatable, accurate sampling and analyses are provided; and a positive work environment is maintained through active team contribution and open communication.

What we will ask you to do:

  • Monitors daily fermentation.
  • Evaluates and communicates sensory characteristics of fermentations to winemaking team.
  • Follows lab protocols to sample from tanks, barrels, and vineyards.
  • Performs analysis of grape and wine samples (Brix, TA, pH, alcohol, sulfur, etc.).
  • Prepares solutions, maintains chemicals, and calibrates equipment.
  • Supports cellar with additions and inoculations as needed.
  • Cleans and performs preventative maintenance of instruments and equipment.
  • Performs accurate data entry and tracking using Microsoft Excel and Innovint.
  • Prepares trials and blends upon request.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule and work overtime, including weekends during peak harvest period.

What you will need:

  • Basic lab skills – including pipetting, titration, and ability to follow protocols
  • High school diploma required, bachelor’s degree in enology or science preferred.
  • Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Must have intermediate English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Dependability, independence, and initiative.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 45 lbs.
