Job description

We are looking for a talented Diesel Engine Test-Cell Technician to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Stoughton, WI.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: 

  • Prepare and configure test articles, fixtures, rigs, and equipment to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely execution of testing activities. 

  • Install instrumentation in accordance with engineering standards, delivering reliable data collection and support the integrity of test results. 

  • Support testing activities by following established procedures and methodologies, helping ensure safe, consistent, and repeatable test execution. 

  • Contribute to the validity of test outcomes through a strong understanding of test equipment functionality and its impact on data accuracy and performance evaluation. 

  • Apply product knowledge to assess test results, identify potential issues, and support accurate interpretation of product performance. 

  • Perform test stand installations, setups, and troubleshooting activities to maximize operational readiness and minimize testing delays. 

  • Maintain laboratory equipment and test systems to ensure a safe, reliable, and efficient testing environment. 

  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams to support successful test programs, resolve technical challenges, and drive continuous improvement.

Additional Information

  • Operates Emission Lab engine test-cells, emissions analyzers and supporting equipment per daily test plan

  • Works with emission development engineers to evaluate the performance of exhaust aftertreatment systems throughout all stages of product development from early development to Current Product

  • Identifies and assist in diagnoses of technical malfunctions of the prototypes or the emissions equipment, interact with suppliers and internal experts to identify the root cause of issues, repair and prevent re-occurrence

  • Maintains test-cell and emissions equipment, including scheduling, and performing weekly/ monthly checks and preventative maintenance/repairs

  • Responsible for inventory management, sourcing and safe disposal of prototypes, testing materials/fixtures and lab consumables

To be successful in this role you will need the following: 

  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail when preparing samples, verifying equipment calibration, and executing tests to ensure accurate, reliable, and trustworthy data collection. 

  • Effectively document test methods, instrument settings, data, and analysis so engineers and customers can clearly understand results and make informed decisions. 

  • Apply technical knowledge to interpret test requirements, configure test systems, select appropriate equipment and instrumentation, and ensure testing capabilities meet customer and laboratory needs. 

  • Build and configure test articles and test setups accurately while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards. 

  • Leverage strong analytical, data quality, and problem-solving skills to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, support continuous improvement, and prevent recurring issues.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.

  • Regionally applicable certification or two-year associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

  • Requires some work experience and intermediate level knowledge obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.
