Job description

Position Title: Empower Your Life Student Intern
Hours: 5-10 hours/week
Duration: 16 week-long semester
Compensation: $15/hour

Empower Your Life student interns are key members of Chesley Health and Wellness Center
Team and will report to the Empower Your Life Program Coordinator and the Director of Student
Health & Wellbeing.

During the sixteen-week internship, the student interns will be the leaders and facilitators of IC’s
NAMI on Campus chapter/student organization as well as facilitate weekly peer-to-peer support
sessions. The interns also will be responsible for planning and implementing mental health
promotion, and suicide prevention, and substance use/abuse prevention education
programming on IC’s campus. The Student Interns will support the work of the Program
Coordinator and the Behavioral Health Coalition by attending trainings and supporting initiatives
to reduce stigma related to mental health. The student interns will be required to complete an 8-
module, three-week Certified Peer Educator training program.

The interns will attend weekly meetings to collaborate with one another and other members of
the Chesley team.

Explanation of Need for Departmental Success:
Research has shown that student leadership can be a tremendous resource in understanding
and communicating with students. Having student leaders engage in and facilitate discussions
that support the mental health needs of students, and being active on campus in reducing the
stigma of mental health will positively impact and enhance the students experience. In addition,
these two interns are valuable to the BHC team in helping the Coalition achieve their goals,
actively engage the campus community in transformative social and learning activities, as well
as make an overall impact on community mental health care for all.

Department: Chesley Health & Wellness Center
