This is a paid internship; however, the intern must provide their own housing and transportation. Business related transportation and expenses will be paid by the organization. This intern will work full-time through the Summer of 2027. The internship is located in the Bloomington, IL or Sun Prairie, WI office location. If pursuing internship credit through your university, it is your responsibility to consult with your advisor and review the internship's job description to ensure it meets the minimum eligibility requirements.

The contributions you will make:

The Engineering Intern is a temporary developmental role designed to provide students with practical experience building and operating modern digital solutions while developing the technical, professional, and business capabilities needed for a successful software engineering career. Working within a cross-functional product team and with close guidance from experienced engineers, this role contributes to well-defined software design, development, testing, automation, deployment, support, and improvement activities while learning how engineering work connects to product objectives, client needs, and business value. The Engineering Intern develops learning agility by actively seeking coaching, rapidly applying feedback and new knowledge, and responsibly exploring cloud-native, DevSecOps, automation, observability, AI-enabled tools and practices, Agentic AI patterns, and AI agents.

A typical day:

  • Own Engineering Delivery by completing well-defined engineering assignments under guidance, with attention to quality, security, reliability, maintainability, supportability, testing, documentation, and established engineering standards.
  • Develop Technical Foundations and Learning Agility by applying software engineering fundamentals while learning the team's technologies, domain concepts, and modern cloud-native, DevSecOps, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and delivery practices.
  • Demonstrates curiosity, actively seeks coaching, experiments responsibly within established guardrails, and rapidly applies feedback and new knowledge.
  • Uses AI-enabled engineering tools and practices, Agentic AI patterns, and AI agents with appropriate supervision to accelerate learning and improve productivity and quality while validating results, protecting sensitive information, and maintaining human accountability.
  • Connect Engineering to Business Outcomes by developing an understanding of product goals, client needs, business priorities, and how assigned engineering work contributes to team objectives and meaningful business value. Begins building a trusted, value-added partner mindset by listening to comprehend, asking thoughtful questions, offering relevant observations, and reliably following through on commitments.
  • Strengthen Team Effectiveness by actively participating in Agile ceremonies, technical discussions, code reviews, testing, documentation, operational support, root-cause learning, and continuous improvement.

The skills and experience we prefer you have:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Completion of coursework in programming, software engineering fundamentals, algorithms, data structures, or comparable technical subjects.
  • Experience developing software through academic coursework, personal projects, hackathons, research, open-source contributions, or comparable learning experiences.
  • Demonstrated learning agility through curiosity, active feedback seeking, rapid application of new technical concepts, and adaptation of approaches to solve problems.
  • Experience with one or more modern programming languages or development frameworks.
  • Exposure to cloud-native application development concepts and one or more cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with Git-based source control and Agile software development.
  • Exposure to automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps, or observability practices.
  • Ability to develop clean, maintainable, and well-tested software while working under appropriate guidance and established engineering practices.
  • Ability to analyze routine technical problems, ask effective questions, and apply foundational engineering principles to identify solutions.

How we will take care of you:

Actual hourly rate offered is dependent upon year in school, work experience, transferable skills, business needs and market demands. The hourly rate range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
