What does an intern in Global Geophysics do?

An Intern in Global Geophysics assists professional geophysicists with research, data collection, and analysis related to the Earth's physical properties and processes. Typical tasks may include processing seismic data, supporting field surveys, and helping interpret geophysical results to inform projects such as resource exploration or environmental studies. Interns gain hands-on experience with specialized software, instruments, and field techniques, preparing them for future careers in geoscience.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect to work on during a Global Geophysics internship?

As an Intern in Global Geophysics, you can typically expect to assist with data collection, processing, and interpretation of geophysical surveys, such as seismic, gravity, or magnetic data. You may also work alongside experienced geophysicists to analyze subsurface structures and support exploration or research initiatives. Interns often collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including geologists and engineers, and may have opportunities to participate in fieldwork or use industry-standard software. These experiences help develop both technical and teamwork skills, providing valuable insight into real-world geoscience projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intern in Global Geophysics, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Intern in Global Geophysics, you need a solid background in geoscience, physics, or a related field, often supported by current enrollment in or completion of a relevant degree program. Familiarity with geophysical data acquisition tools, GIS software, and data analysis platforms such as MATLAB or Python is commonly expected. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork skills help interns contribute meaningfully to research projects. These competencies enable interns to accurately interpret geological data and support successful exploration or research outcomes.
