JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: News Intern DIVISION: Content (news, digital, video, podcasting) REPORTS TO: Divisional Leaders CLASSIFICATION: Non- Exempt PAY: $16.00 per hour Position Summary: Do you want to seek out and report the most compelling stories in our area. Do you want to learn the skills to become a successful journalist in a bustling, award-winning multi-platform newsroom. WXXI News is seeking a news intern for the Summer of 2026 to work in our newsroom on digital, radio, magazine and web stories

We're Rochester's public media source for breaking news, arts and culture coverage, and long-form features that go behind the headlines and provide context and depth. As an intern, you will learn the ins and outs of multimedia journalism, getting great sound on the scene, impactful video, conducting thoughtful interviews, and writing scripts that bring stories to life on air. After that, prepare to shadow some of our award-winning reporters and producers, watching and supporting them in action and picking up their tricks of the trade as together, you research, report, and produce pieces for the daily news operation.

Finally, it's your time to shine. Under the guidance of a supervisor, you'll be ready to report and produce your own stories. Work with our top-notch editors honing your narratives.

Team up with our photographers to get stunning visuals for our website and social media. Collaborate with our team to give your stories a broad reach on social media. Tell stories that matter about the community you care about.

Responsibilities Conduct interviews and do research for news stories Write broadcast scripts and online news stories Attend newsroom meetings Cover events in the surrounding community Shadow reporters at news events as assigned Assist reporters and producers with stories, story promotion and administrative duties Promote news stories on social media platforms Produce social media videos and other content Submit a final written report/evaluation at conclusion of internship Other duties as assigned
