Introduction to the Layla AI Team

Layla is an AI-native travel-planning and booking company, now part of Expedia Group’s Product organization. Through a conversational travel assistant, Layla helps travelers move from inspiration to a complete, bookable itinerary — flights, hotels, activities, and the day-by-day detail — in minutes. As part of Expedia Group, the team combines Layla’s planning and personalization capabilities with Expedia Group’s global supply, first-party traveler insights, marketplace scale, and booking technology.

The team is small and senior by design and operates with startup pace: you own a surface, ship it, and see the impact on real travelers within weeks — with decisions driven by data and AI tooling used in practice every day.

As a Senior Mobile Engineer working in Flutter, you will help build Layla’s mobile trip-planning and booking experiences across iOS and Android.

In this role, you will:
  • Design, build, and maintain Layla’s cross-platform mobile experience in Flutter (Dart), delivering a single, high-quality codebase that performs reliably across iOS and Android.

  • Own end-to-end feature delivery for mobile — including low-level design, API integration, and data modeling — for conversational trip-planning and booking features that connect to Layla and Expedia Group services.

  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and backend engineering to turn the conversational travel experience into intuitive, accessible, and performant mobile flows, iterating quickly based on experimentation and real traveler feedback.

  • Drive mobile quality and reliability through automated testing, continuous integration and delivery, performance monitoring, and observability across both platforms.

  • Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled capabilities within the app — such as assistant-driven planning, personalization, and recommendations — applying AI/ML concepts to real-world mobile features responsibly.

  • Contribute to native interoperability where platform-specific capabilities are required, and help establish reusable patterns and engineering best practices for Flutter development at Layla.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.

  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience.

  • Professional experience building and shipping production mobile applications with Flutter and Dart, including ownership of features from design through release and support.

  • Experience delivering to both iOS and Android from a shared codebase, including API integration, data modeling, and network/offline data handling.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and maintain testable, maintainable, and performant mobile codebases using modern frameworks, tooling, and libraries.

  • Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real-world products, with a focus on safely integrating these capabilities into mobile features.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced proficiency with Flutter/Dart, mobile UI/UX best practices, state management, and performance optimization.

  • Experience with native iOS (Swift/SwiftUI) and/or Android (Kotlin/Jetpack) interoperability via platform channels or native modules.

  • Proven track record leading technical design for complex mobile initiatives — including architecture decisions, API contracts, and data models that span multiple services or domains.

  • Experience building accessible (a11y) and inclusive mobile user interfaces.

  • Experience integrating AI/ML-enabled capabilities into mobile applications — such as intelligent assistant flows, personalization, recommendations, or content ranking — with attention to safety and responsible use.

  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (for example, Claude or similar) to improve developer productivity, code quality, and delivery speed.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive architectural improvements (modularization, design patterns, platform standardization) and to mentor other engineers.
