Job description

Weston & Sampson is seeking a Water Resources Engineering Intern for our Winter/Spring 2027 Co-Op/Intern Program. This position is based in our Reading, MA office and offers the opportunity to work on a variety of projects focused on climate resilience, flood mitigation, stormwater management, and site civil design. The selected candidate will support engineers with both office-based design tasks and field work throughout Massachusetts and greater New England, gaining hands-on experience in the planning, design, and implementation of resilient infrastructure solutions that improve community and environmental outcomes..

What you’ll do:

The Water Resources Engineering Intern will assist engineering staff with a variety of project-related tasks focused on climate resiliency, flood mitigation, stormwater management, and site civil design, including:

  • Performing engineering calculations and data analysis to support water resources and infrastructure projects
  • Conducting research, technical evaluations, and resiliency assessments
  • Assisting with the design and preparation of plans, specifications, and reports for stormwater, drainage, flood mitigation, and site civil improvement projects
  • Supporting GIS, AutoCAD, and hydraulic/hydrologic modeling efforts
  • Participating in field investigations, site assessments, and infrastructure condition evaluations
  • Providing construction phase services, including site visits and field observations
  • Contributing to climate resilience, green infrastructure, and sustainable design initiatives

What you will bring:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related field
  • Students with at least two years of completed coursework are preferred
  • Interest in water resources engineering, climate resilience, flood mitigation, stormwater management, and site civil design
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and coordinate multiple assignments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Introductory knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, or related engineering software is preferred.
  • Willingness to perform occasional field work, including site investigations and construction observations.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to project sites.
  • Intellectual curiosity, a positive attitude, and a strong desire to learn and grow as an engineer.
