Job description

Overview
Lead. Mentor. Heal. Join Auburn Gymnastics and play a vital role in supporting the health, safety, and performance of our student-athletes as they compete at the highest level of collegiate gymnastics.
The individual in this position will provide comprehensive athletic training services for Auburn Gymnastics, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play progression for gymnastics student-athletes. This position works closely with team physicians, coaches, strength and conditioning staff, and other sports medicine professionals to promote athlete health, wellness, and peak performance throughout training and competition.
Responsibilities
  • Assists with the day-to-day operations of the gymnastics athletic training facility and provides comprehensive sports medicine coverage for the Auburn Gymnastics program.
  • Works directly alongside a dedicated certified intern in providing first aid and rehabilitative care for student-athletes, including injury assessment, treatment, and referral to appropriate physicians.
  • Provides athletic training coverage for gymnastics practices, strength and conditioning sessions, team travel, and competitions, including athlete preparation, taping, bracing, and recovery services.
  • Develops and implements rehabilitation programs for gymnastics-related injuries, including upper extremity, lower extremity, spinal, and overuse conditions, in collaboration with team physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Assists with the assessment and management of acute and chronic injuries commonly associated with gymnastics, including return-to-practice and return-to-competition progression plans.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential medical documentation, including injury reports, treatment records, rehabilitation notes, physician referrals, and NCAA-required medical records for gymnastics student-athletes.
  • Performs administrative duties related to sports medicine operations, including scheduling medical appointments, coordinating specialist referrals, tracking medical clearances, and maintaining inventory of athletic training supplies and equipment.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer, team physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, registered dietitians, mental health professionals, strength and conditioning staff, and gymnastics coaches to optimize student-athlete health, performance, and recovery.
  • Evaluates gymnastics student-athletes for medical readiness and participates in return-to-play and return-to-competition decisions, ensuring safe progression following injury or illness.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates injury prevention, emergency action, and risk management protocols specific to the demands of collegiate gymnastics.
  • Ensures compliance with all NCAA, SEC, institutional, and sports medicine policies and procedures while supporting the health, safety, and well-being of gymnastics student-athletes.

Qualifications
Degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science (with an emphasis in athletic training), or related which leads to athletic training certification
Level I
  • Bachelor's degree

Level II
  • Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of experience OR
  • Master's degree

Level III
  • Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of experience OR
  • Master's degree plus 2 years of experience

Senior Athletic Trainer
  • Bachelor's degree plus 10 years of experience OR
  • Master's degree plus 8 years of experience
  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • Performance Enhancement Specialist Certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine
    • Corrective Exercise Specialist Certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine
    • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association
    • Active Release Technique Certification
    • Graston Technique Certification
    • Myofascial Release Certification
    • Knieso Taping Certification by Knieso Taping Association International

Scope of Experience: Experience in preventing, assessing and treating athletic injuries
Certification or Licensure Requirements: Must be certified by the National Trainers' Association Board and eligible to be licensed in the State of Alabama by the Alabama Board of Athletic Training for all levels
