What is the role?

Michaels Energy is seeking an experienced program management professional to launch a new utility energy efficiency portfolio in Virginia. The Senior Program Manager oversees all aspects of program launch and delivery, including leading a cross-functional team, setting strategy, and meeting financial and contractual goals. This position will develop and optimize processes and tools, and exert influential leadership skills, so teams can perform assigned work effectively and meet client and company expectations. We are looking for someone with strong organizational skills, financial acumen, communication skills, and a passion for energy efficiency who will thrive in a team environment and will exemplify our core values.


Program and portfolio management

  • Program implementation: Understand and meet contracted program delivery goals, KPIs, and deliverables
  • Financial management: Develop and manage financial goals, including program budgets, revenue goals, and revenue growth. Develop P&L and other financial statements for programs
  • Establish and manage tools to track and communicate progress towards contract goals, budget, KPIs, and deliverables
  • Document and optimize delivery processes to ensure efficient program implementation
  • Accountable for quality control on program deliverables
  • Identify opportunities to grow client share in collaboration with the Michaels business development team

Client Satisfaction

  • Provide expected results on time and on budget
  • Hold regular meetings to relay program performance to goals, successes, issues, and ideas for improvements
  • Understand and avoid contract penalties
  • Learn the regulatory environment and stakeholders to shape the program to meet client needs, which could include advancing equity outcomes.

Team development and oversight

  • Advocate for staff resources from engineering and other groups, including subcontractors, based on the scope to deliver program goals
  • Communicate regularly so each team member understands program expectations (the work, the timeline, and the budget) and their performance
  • Address performance issues, either directly or with supervisors, to ensure a high-functioning program team
  • Lead contracting and management of subcontractors

After 3 months, you will have....

  • Developed relationships with external clients to gain an understanding of preferences and expectations, especially as it relates to the portfolio launch and following operations
  • Developed relationships with all internal program delivery team members to develop clear roles and contributions to the portfolios launchand ongoing operations
  • Integrated yourself within the programs team and department and gained an understanding of Michael's business practices and relevant metrics, especially launch procedures
  • Customized a launch checklist and associated roadmap from internal templates to support the specifics of the portfolio at hand

After 6 months, you will have....

  • Successfully launched the entire portfolio by the go-live date
  • Lead hypercare through the stabilization period
  • Effectively transition into steady state operations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Five+ years of product or program management experience, preferably in energy efficiency, transportation electrification, or decarbonization
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong business and financial acumen

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA preferred but not required
  • PMP Certification preferred but not required

  • Within the state of Virginia or the immediate regional area is preferred
  • Work from home, in the office, or a hybrid within the preferred area


Pay Scale

$120,000 - $135,000
