Title: Intern, Global Communications & Journalism
Employment Status: NON-EXEMPT
Salary: $18.40 per HOUR
Supervisor Title: Manager, Communications & Marketing
Summary of Position:
The Global Communications & Journalism Intern will help support Meridian's initiatives by producing creative written and multimedia content optimized for engagement across social, digital and print platforms. The intern can expect to gain experience in content marketing and branding, social media campaigns, data analytics, graphic design, video and photo production, database management, event production, non-profit management, fundraising as well as business development.
This position is located in Washington D.C. and Meridian requires MD, DC, or VA residence for all employees. The position may work partially remotely until further notice.
Requirements
Position Responsibilities:
  • Generate original content for the website, blog, monthly newsletter, email marketing and social media, among other editorial or marketing materials
  • Storyboard and edit short, compelling videos for distribution on social media and inclusion in newsletters and website
  • Curate news articles and stories relevant to Meridian's mission to post on social media platforms and invite conversation and interaction with our online community
  • Support live coverage of events*, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, X, photography, videography
  • Responsible for completing all organizational administrative responsibilities in a timely manner and meeting all organizational administrative deadlines
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:
  • Be a current undergraduate or graduate student in the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism
  • Commit 16-20 hours per week to the internship
  • Any combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Superior writing, editing and proofreading skills, with knowledge of AP style
  • Excellent storyteller with the ability to curate, create, write, edit and publish compelling multimedia content
  • Ability to identify stories and elements with viral potential, and analyze data to accelerate digital audience engagement
  • Familiarity with multimedia production and editing, photography, Canon products, copywriting and editing, social media content presentation and delivery, Salesforce, Pardot, and basic HTML preferred
  • A highly motivated self-starter with superb communication and organizational skills, and high attention to detail
  • A team player with the ability to follow through on long-term projects and to work independently
  • Strong inter-cultural communication skills; maturity, cultural sensitivity, and tact suitable for working with individuals from around the world

Technical Requirements:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams is necessary for this role
  • Working knowledge of WordPress, Google Analytics, Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, InDesign and Illustrator), Microsoft Office, video
  • Experience with Canva, Zoom and Salesforce is helpful
