The
Assistant ADA of Maintenance assists the ADA of Maintenance with maintenance engineering oversight, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards in regional maintenance operations. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to exercise independent judgment within delegated authority and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent provides engineering and operational oversight for assigned
geographic areas and ensures consistent implementation of district maintenance standards, safety requirements, and performance expectations.
The defining characteristics of the Assistant ADA of Maintenance include delegated maintenance operations oversight within assigned geographic areas, supervision of maintenance personnel, implementation of districtwide maintenance programs and standards, performance monitoring and reporting, support of quality assurance activities, budgeting and resource coordination, contracted maintenance support, stakeholder coordination, emergency response support, and technical and administrative duties. The Assistant ADA of Maintenance coordinates with the ADA of Maintenance and, as directed, with DOTD Headquarters and applicable program areas to ensure assigned maintenance activities are performed in accordance with DOTD policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
This position is in
District 62 and reports to the
ADA of Maintenance.
Preference will be given to current DOTD Employees.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following:
Three years of licensed engineering experience; or
Seven years of professional engineering experience.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTIONS:
A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of professional engineering experience.
A doctorate degree in engineering will substitute for two years of professional engineering experience.
Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of professional engineering experience.
There is no substitution for licensed engineering experience.
NOTES:
Engineering experience gained while licensed as a professional engineer will be accepted as licensed engineering experience. Engineering experience gained after earning an ABET-accredited degree and prior to earning a professional engineer's license (e.g., as an engineer intern applicant, engineer intern, or equivalent) will be accepted as professional level engineering experience.
Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all licensing requirements are met.

Job Duties:
The Assistant ADA of Maintenance's primary duties:
- Operational Oversight: Provide engineering leadership and supervision for maintenance staff and activities within the District.
- Budget & Planning: Assists with material management, equipment, and contract budget oversight to ensure maintenance activities are performed in accordance with DOTD policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
- Contract Management: Oversee the scoping, administration, and quality assurance of maintenance contracts, including mowing, litter removal, and roadside assistance.
- Quality Assurance: Implement and supervise the Maintenance Quality Assurance (MQA) program by collecting data, monitoring performance measures, and ensuring policy compliance.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce LADOTD standards, safety regulations, and traffic control protocols for all roadway and bridge maintenance activities.
- Support Emergency Response: Facilitate the District's response to emergency issues like storm damage, road hazards, or bridge failures to ensure public safety.
This role requires collaborative leadership, adaptability, and strong communication skills.
Position-Specific Details:
Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $3,481.60/biweekly.
Additional compensation may be considered with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.
Licensing Requirements: Must have a current Louisiana Professional Engineering License.
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); lateral, or by detail to special duty.
Preference will be given to current DOTD Employees.
