Job description

The KMBC 9 / KCWE 29 Internship Program is a paid, rigorous and highly competitive hands-on experience that provides individuals with the opportunity to learn about the operations of a broadcast television station. The Sales Department generates revenue for the stations by utilizing our commercial inventory on both linear TV and Digital platforms to help our advertisers grow their business. An intern working in the Sales Department will gain knowledge and experience through the following opportunities:

SALES MEETINGS 

  • Attend weekly Sales meetings led by Sales management to gain insight into the objectives and priorities of the Sales team.

  • Analysis of inventory, promotional opportunities, and category trends.

  • Digital product training and updates on new and existing assets in our digital product portfolio.

  • Account Executive training, including Hearst On-Demand videos targeting all aspects of our jobs.

  • Discuss market conditions, creative ideas, success stories et al.

RESEARCH 

Engage with our Research Director, Sales Managers, and Account Executives to help glean useful information to further our sales efforts, including the following:

  • Nielsen audience measurement data.

  • Marshall Marketing qualitative and viewer insight information.

  • Digital dashboard analytics.

  • Hearst Analytics advertiser attribution data.

CLIENT MEETINGS

  • Participate in the most essential element of our path to success in Sales, the actual client meetings.

  • Assist in preparation for client meetings by gathering necessary data and insight to increase likelihood for success.

  • Work with Account Executives and Sales Managers to build presentations in advance of meetings.

  • Join Account Executives and Sales Managers on in-person and video meetings with new and existing clients.

  • Engage with Account Executives and Sales Managers to generate strategy and immediate next steps following meetings.

Your first day at the station is set aside for orientation which Must be attended.  Plan to work three days a week, eight hours each shift with varying schedules. During your internship you should always check in with your assigned advisor upon entering the building. 

Securing housing and transportation during the internship are the responsibility of the intern.  KMBC 9 / KCWE 29 cannot offer support in this area.
