MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in a computer related field -OR- possession of a CompTIA A+ or equivalent certification;

-OR-

A current military member with IT experience applying through the Skillbridge program.

JOB SUMMARY: Performs technical tasks that encompass the installation, administration, maintenance, documentation, and optimization of processes, technology devices, and software. Works under the supervision of the Chief Information Officer or designated staff member.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with various IT and business tasks based on areas of focus below.
  • Answers questions and interfaces with County IT consumers.
  • Review, research and resolve assigned incidents and service requests.
  • Assists in ensuring incident and service request documentation is created, updated and complete.
  • Supports security solutions and ensures security policy compliance for all supported systems.
  • Communicate consistently and effectively with supervision and ensure awareness of status, problems and issues.
  • Various tasks as assigned based on area of focus.
  • Follow all County and department policies and procedures.

ASSIGNMENT AREAS:

Systems Management- We are seeking a Systems Management Intern to support the IT Infrastructure team in maintaining, documenting, and improving core systems across networking, servers, virtualization, monitoring, backups, and storage. The role provides hands-on exposure to enterprise technologies such as VMware, Site24x7, SAN/NAS storage, Veeam, Active Directory, and Windows/Linux server environments. The intern will assist with monitoring, maintenance, system health checks, backup validation, and infrastructure optimization while contributing to process and workflow improvements. This position emphasizes practical experience, documentation quality, and participation in new technical initiatives and service improvement discussions.

End User Support/Research- We are seeking an IT Intern to support automation and workflow initiatives across ServiceDesk Plus (on-prem) and Microsoft 365/SharePoint. Required skills include hands-on experience with Python, Power Automate, WDL expressions, and designing and maintaining workflows to automate ticketing, data handling, notifications, and process improvements. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with ServiceDesk Plus and/or SharePoint administration and APIs, Deluge scripting or Java, PowerShell or C#, and low-code tools such as Power Apps or SPFx. Experience with RPA-particularly Power Automate Desktop-and the ability to document solutions and work with business users are strong pluses.

AI Systems Intern- We are seeking an Intern to assist with the continuing build-out of a locally hosted AI platform. The role focuses on deploying and configuring AI services on Linux-based systems, writing and maintaining Python scripts for automation, data handling, and model integration, and supporting environment setup (packages, virtual environments, containers, and system services). The intern will help document architecture and build procedures, perform basic testing and validation, and collaborate with senior staff to harden, optimize, and operationalize the platform for internal use.

Cybersecurity – We are seeking a Cybersecurity Intern to support the County IT security function in monitoring, documenting, and improving cybersecurity processes, tools, and controls. The role provides hands-on exposure to enterprise security technologies and practices such as vulnerability management, endpoint protection, firewall rule review, security awareness, log review, identity and access management, incident response support, and policy compliance. The intern will assist with reviewing security alerts, documenting findings, validating remediation efforts, maintaining security inventories, supporting phishing and awareness initiatives, and contributing to security procedure and workflow improvements. This position emphasizes practical cybersecurity experience, attention to detail, documentation quality, professional communication, and participation in ongoing security improvement initiatives.
