Senior AWS Cloud Database Administrator (DBA)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior AWS Cloud Database Administrator (DBA) with 8+ years of hands-on database administration experience and strong expertise in PostgreSQL and AWS cloud database technologies.

The ideal candidate will have extensive production experience managing PostgreSQL databases, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, Amazon DocumentDB, and Amazon DynamoDB. This role will be responsible for database performance, availability, security, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, replication, migration, and overall operational support across cloud database environments.

The candidate should have strong experience working in enterprise production environments and be comfortable troubleshooting complex database issues while maintaining high levels of availability, security, and performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and support enterprise-scale PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
  • Manage Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, Amazon DocumentDB, and Amazon DynamoDB environments.
  • Design, implement, and maintain highly available and scalable AWS cloud database environments.
  • Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and capacity planning.
  • Monitor database health, performance, availability, and resource utilization.
  • Implement and manage High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Configure and manage database replication, failover, read replicas, Multi-AZ deployments, and cross-region replication.
  • Develop and maintain database backup and recovery strategies, including Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR).
  • Perform database migrations to AWS cloud environments using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and other migration tools.
  • Troubleshoot database performance, connectivity, availability, replication, and operational issues.
  • Implement database security controls, including user access, roles and permissions, encryption, auditing, and authentication.
  • Support database compliance requirements and security controls aligned with standards such as SOX, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, ISO 27001/27002, or similar frameworks.
  • Work with security and infrastructure teams to implement database security and access-control policies.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot AWS database environments using Amazon CloudWatch, Performance Insights, and other monitoring tools.
  • Automate database administration and operational tasks using scripting and infrastructure-as-code technologies.
  • Support infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Maintain database documentation, operational procedures, recovery procedures, and architecture standards.
  • Participate in production support, incident management, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with application, cloud, security, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to ensure reliable database operations.
Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of hands-on Database Administration experience.
  • Strong production experience with PostgreSQL.
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • Strong experience with AWS RDS.
  • Experience administering cloud-based database environments on AWS.
  • Experience with Amazon DocumentDB and/or Amazon DynamoDB.
  • Strong knowledge of database performance tuning and SQL/query optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with High Availability and Disaster Recovery.
  • Strong experience with database backup, recovery, replication, and failover.
  • Experience with AWS Database Migration Service (AWS DMS) or similar database migration technologies.
  • Strong understanding of database security, access controls, encryption, auditing, and authentication.
  • Experience supporting enterprise production database environments.
  • Experience with AWS and/or Azure database environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Experience with IBM Guardium.
  • Strong database security administration experience.
