Database Engineer - Recovery & Cyber Resiliency | New York, New York, United States Job Summary: Database Engineer - Recovery & Cyber Resiliency Location: New York, NY (Onsite 3-4 days/week) Job Type: C2C | Must be authorized to work in the US without future sponsorship About the Role Join a high-impact engineering team focused on protecting and recovering critical database platforms during cyber events and large-scale outages. As a Database Engineer specializing in Recovery & Cyber Resiliency, you will drive the design and execution of robust recovery strategies, ensuring business continuity for mission-critical systems. This is not a traditional DBA or Architect role, but a hands-on engineering opportunity for cyber and recovery-focused specialists ready to own operational excellence and technical leadership in times of crisis. Responsibilities - Design and implement advanced database recovery and cyber resiliency plans for high-availability environments. - Lead end-to-end backup, restore, replication, failover, and disaster recovery initiatives in line with RPO/RTO standards. - Collaborate closely with DBAs, infrastructure, security, application, and business continuity teams to ensure seamless integration of recovery processes. - Engineer automation for recovery, validation, health checks, and resiliency reporting. - Facilitate and execute recovery readiness, including testing, tabletop exercises, and cyber recovery simulations. - Provide expert technical leadership during major incidents and disaster recovery events. - Address dependencies such as authentication, DNS, certificates, and OS-level integrations (Linux/Windows). - Support a diverse ecosystem including Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Hadoop, and graph databases. Required Skills and Experience - Strong background in database engineering for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB. - Deep understanding of Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) principles. - Proven experience in disaster recovery planning, orchestration, and process automation. - Proficiency in scripting or automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash). - Familiarity with authentication, DNS, certificate management, and both Linux and Windows environments. - Demonstrated ability to lead recovery during cyber events or outages. Preferred Skills - Hands-on experience with cyber recovery exercises or ransomware recovery strategies. - Knowledge of zero trust, immutable storage, and cyber vault frameworks. - Experience with cloud database resiliency in AWS, Azure, or GCP. - Familiarity with enterprise backup, monitoring, and configuration management tools. - Background working in regulated environments with audit/compliance focus. - Relevant certifications: OCP, Azure Database Administrator Associate, AWS Database Specialty.
