Job description

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) delivers mission-critical applications for top tier enterprises around the world. Our cloud offers unmatched hyper-scale, multi-tenant services deployed in more than 50 regions worldwide. OCI is expanding its mission beyond the traditional boundaries of public cloud to include dedicated, hybrid and multi cloud, edge computing, and more.
At Technical Strategy and Oversight (TSO) organization, our mission is to support customer choice, transparency, and value when it comes to cloud infrastructure. We're embarking on ambitious new initiatives such as canonical implementation of core components for controlplanes and data planes. We are hoping to enhance engineering efficiency by concentrating our expertise on building low level systems with high performance that can be adopted by our core cloud services across OCI.
For this role, we are looking for technical leaders to build and deliver a database validation framework that will ensure the reliability of databases being used by critical tier-0 OCI services. This is an exciting opportunity to work with senior architects & leaders at OCI as well as a broader Oracle Database organization. You must be a self-motivated engineer with passion and expertise in solving challenging system, data-plane level and performance problems. You should be a rock-solid developer able to dive deep into low-level systems, design broad distributed system interactions for high performance, high scale control plan and data plane service. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.
We are growing fast, still at an early stage, and working on ambitious new initiatives. You will be part of a team of smart, motivated, diverse people, and given the autonomy as well as support to do your best work. It is a dynamic and flexible workplace where you'll belong and be encouraged.
Responsibilities
With your exceptional technical, analytical, and leadership capabilities, you will provide technical leadership for the validation, reliability, and operational excellence of an internal key-value metadata store that underpins Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) control plane services. You will define the validation strategy for critical database infrastructure, collaborate across multiple engineering organizations, and drive the development of scalable validation frameworks that improve service availability, resilience, and customer experience.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Principal Engineer, you will lead the design and implementation of comprehensive reliability validation methodologies that ensure database platforms continue to meet the availability, scalability, consistency, and performance expectations of OCI's mission-critical cloud services. You will work closely with architects, database engineers, and service teams to identify reliability risks, influence product direction, and establish engineering best practices that proactively detect and prevent production issues before customer impact.
Your responsibilities include:
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering, architecture, or development/operational experience.
  • Define and drive the long-term validation strategy for distributed database infrastructure supporting OCI control plane services.
  • Design, develop, and automate large-scale validation frameworks for fault injection, high availability, disaster recovery, database upgrades, patching, migration, and operational resilience.
  • Develop production-scale workload generation and validation infrastructure to evaluate database behavior under realistic customer workloads and complex failure scenarios.
  • Design comprehensive data consistency and correctness validation mechanisms to ensure data integrity across failover, recovery, upgrade, and migration workflows.
  • Partner with database engineering, cloud infrastructure, and service teams to investigate complex reliability issues, perform root cause analysis, validate corrective actions, and improve overall platform robustness.
  • Drive engineering excellence by establishing validation standards, operational best practices, automation strategies, and quality metrics across multiple organizations.
  • Influence architecture and design decisions by providing technical guidance on database reliability, scalability, performance, and operational readiness.
  • Lead cross-organizational initiatives that improve service availability, reduce operational risk, and increase engineering productivity through automation and continuous validation.
  • Mentor senior engineers and serve as a technical leader within the organization, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
