Details
The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Utah School of Medicine is recruiting for a Pediatric Infectious Diseases Physician with interest and experience in Hospital Epidemiology. This position is open to both junior faculty as well as more senior faculty including those with leadership experience in Hospital Epidemiology. Responsibilities will include a significant role in the infection prevention and hospital epidemiology program as well as clinical consultation on the inpatient service and in the Infectious Diseases clinic. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a vibrant and collegial academic environment and work in a children's hospital ranked as one of the best in the US. There is ample opportunity to develop an independent research career or to focus on quality improvement. Clinical activities will be carried out at Primary Children's Hospital, a 290-bed children's hospital ranked among U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals, and in the University of Utah and Intermountain Healthcare systems, including at our new Primary Children's Hospital location in Lehi, UT. In addition to clinical service, there is an expectation for academic work that can include investigation, education, administration/service and/or advocacy.
The Hospital Epidemiology team at Primary Children's Hospital involves multiple collaborators as well as three Infectious Diseases physicians and four Infection Preventionists. We are directly involved in hospital epidemiology at Primary Children's main campus and the new Miller campus in Lehi, UT. We advise Children's Health for Intermountain Healthcare as it relates to infection prevention for children throughout the system. Currently the Division includes 12 full-time, one part-time and one adjunct faculty member, three APPs, one RN, and a PharmD faculty member who helps lead our Antimicrobial Stewardship Program along with MD faculty. We also have an active fellowship program that includes a global health track. Research in the Division currently focuses on infectious disease epidemiology including respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, health services research and value-based care, the development and impact of diagnostic tests and improving the care of children with cancer and transplants.
In addition to tracking and preventing hospital-acquired infections at two children's hospitals, we work closely with public health experts at the Utah Department of Health and Human Services. We have collaborated in outbreak investigations, worked with the state EIS officers, worked on statewide surveillance, as well as community-wide antimicrobial stewardship efforts in collaboration with our antimicrobial stewardship team. There are multiple opportunities available for quality improvement projects, combined epi/stewardship projects and research, as well as involvement in our highly infectious response team. We have active collaborations with the CDC-funded epicenter which includes the University of Utah Hospital, Intermountain Medical Center, the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center, and the CDC. We are one of the centers for infectious disease modeling research and application funded through the CDC Center for Forecasting and Analytics (CFA).
We have also developed research, public health, and epidemiologic collaborations with the state and county health departments.
Qualified candidates must be Board Eligible/Board Certified in Pediatrics and in Pediatric Infectious Diseases or Infectious Diseases, and must have demonstrated research, quality improvement skills, or other scholarly activity. The selected candidate will receive a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics on the Clinical or Tenure track at the academic level commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The Department and University offers a competitive salary and an unmatched benefits program, including non-contributory retirement contributions of 20.2% of annual salary. The Department offers a faculty development and mentoring program designed to foster success in translational or basic research, quality improvement engagement, and excellence as educators.
