Job description

The Director, Business Development โ€“ CDMO (West Coast Markets, Remote Available) will drive strategic growth for Afton's sterile drug product CDMO services . This role focuses on acquiring, managing, and expanding relationships with global biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients. Success in this position requires strong understanding of aseptic processing, fillโ€finish operations, tech transfer of drug product , and the ability to navigate complex customer decisionโ€making across CMC, R&D, and executive leadership teams.

This role requires travel of approximately 30 โ€“ 40 %. Key Responsibilities Develop and execute business development strategies across clinical and commercial drug product programs Identify and qualify new business opportunities with biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients Own the full sales lifecycle, including prospecting, proposal development, pricing strategy, negotiation, and contract closure Meet or exceed annual revenue, pipeline, and bookings targets Build and maintain seniorโ€level relationships across client Cโ€suite, R&D, CMC, procurement, and sourcing organizations Serve as the primary commercial point of contact for client programs Demonstrate strong knowledge of Afton Scientific's sterile drug product development and GMP fillโ€finish operations Lead the preparation and delivery of proposals, RFP responses, and technical/commercial presentations Support pricing strategy and contract negotiations aligned with company margin and risk targets Provide market intelligence to inform capability expansion, capacity planning, and investment decisions Monitor industry trends, competitor offerings, and outsourcing strategies in the sterile fillโ€finish CDMO sector Identify emerging opportunities across advanced sterile modalities (e.g., GLPโ€1s, biologics, complex injectables, combination products) Represent Afton Scientific at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events Experience and Qualifications Nonโ€Negotiable Requirements: Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development, commercial strategy, or technical sales for CDMOs, CROs, or pharmaceutical manufacturing organizations Demonstrated experience closing complex, highโ€value CDMO contracts with global biotech and pharmaceutical companies Deep understanding of sterile drug product operations , including aseptic filling Experience supporting or selling CDMO services for injectables, liquid formulations, or sterile fillโ€finish manufacturing Preferred Requirements: Given the travel demands associated with this position, priority will be given to individuals residing within the West Coast markets. Advanced degree in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline Strong knowledge of sterile drug product manufacturing , including aseptic operations, isolator capabilities, batch release fundamentals, and regulatory expectations (e.g., Annex 1, FDA aseptic guidance) Experience collaborating with internal stakeholders to design and deliver drug product CDMO solutions Exceptional communication, negotiation, and executiveโ€level presentation skills Ability to manage long, multiโ€stage BD cycles from qualification through contract execution Handsโ€on experience utilizing Salesforce to manage leads, opportunities, and sales reporting Upload your resume to apply for this role through CvilleBioHub.
